When traffic is bad in The South Puget Sound area especially south of Amazon in DuPont there is one alternative route. When the Amtrak train derailed on Dec 18th 2017 and fell on to I -5. The only way to go south was to go north to 512, east to Parkland then south on 7 to the Roy Y, 507 to McKenna and then West on 510 back to I-5 through many small towns with stoplights all the way. A two lane road. Approx 50 miles back to I-5 which would have been 8 miles if the road was open. Figure in all the traffic going the same way it added 4 hours to your return trip home. Oh.....joy of joys.

So how was Mary Poppins able to get to the crash site, but not a tow truck? Maybe Seattle needs to get a utility helicopter that can pick up a wreck and place it on the shoulder to so they can reopen traffic. How about the Cops using pickup trucks with plows to push the wrecks to the side? Is this Mogadishu or is this the USA?

@@benzin5458 it was enough to shut down the entire freeway. Should it have been? Absolutely not. But that’s not really the fault of all the poor saps sitting in it (like I did). WSDOT should have had that cleaned up in an hour.
