I-83 was one of the first Interstates built in Pennsylvania; many used the PA Turnpike as their model. This part also used to be US 111; looks like the business route is the old road, with the junction with Alternate US 111 at the end. US 30 is just ahead.

I've had a bit of an exchange over the Web over the past few weeks with a host of a blog the title of which was inspired by a niterie in York, Pennsylvania so it's good to be able to trace the journey between there and the vicinity of my much older relationship over Cyberspace with the host of 'Art Deco Architecture' in Ellicott City, Maryland. I was slightly disappointed, given my surname, that I didn't see any exit signs to Bentley Springs, near the MD/PA State Line, as I have a road map of the East Coast between Philadelphia and Washington DC and I followed the journey therewith. The good news was that I enjoyed the pleasant scenery. I'd love to see this in the autumn/fall, since the colours of the trees would be stunning, I'm sure.

19:48 the barrier they use here is odd, it's the only place I have ever seen a barrier like it

There used to be a section of the PA Turnpike that you said this metal guard rail but it seems to have been replaced with more conventional concrete jersey wall barrier

Driven on 83 hundreds of times. It’s a nice drive but the PA drivers who don’t understand how a passing lane works gets old real quick.
