Im so tired of clarifying why they genuinely share feelings for each other with proof of the manga and how unnescesary feeling towards phoenix is just a clear way to represent his attraction yet in doubt wether he wants that or not, LATER ON he deals with his guilty strike bs, which he had already dealt with by literally deciding to help convict vasquez, he knew she did it, and that it was just... by later on i mean in the next game when he leaves phoenix behind for a while to reconsider what he wants as a prosecutor, but having phoenix back grew more than a wake up for justice, otherwise any other just defense attorney or memories of his father as defense would wake him up from von karma's teachings, but feeling does more to him than anyone else, and in his want it or not denial he just says there's no way phoenix became an attorney for him, but we can imagine he just wants to hold back from his feelings... he was uncertain of his future now that his crush is back in his life and brought the idea of conflict with true justice aswell, but also uneased about how wright makes him feel, this is carried on in the oficial casebook manga, where they exchange the lines "edgeworth, do you love m-?" "Dont you dare finish that sentence" yet we can see in mile's inner dialogue of how whenever he is tired, he thinks of Phoenix... its the secret in his heart iris mentions, that he cannot express his heart out at you know who... but looking after each other, always, might be enough to make him feel well...

I really like the “I am saddled with unnecessary… feelings” line cause it’s gayer in the original Japanese version, because the original Japanese version states 「おかげで私の中に、よけいな感情がよみがえった」which is translated as “Thanks to you, unnecessary feelings have been *revived* in me.” Which is not a translation error, as “よみがえった” is the past tense version ofよみがえる which means “to resurrect/revive” which implies those “unnecessary feelings” were there before. Ace Attorney doesn’t have gay undertones, it’s practically a gay slap in the face.
