@@NikolausBrocke funny that you ask. VVV has been in my mix template for a very long time and Glow now sits right next to it. They are very different beasts of course. VVV is far more flexible and has a more granular approach to tone shaping. Glow does it's own unique thing and honestly I would love if Sean over at Valhalla would put a dedicated gate and ducker on each of his reverb plugins. These two features are super useful whether you're going for an 80's sound or just trying to craft a spacious sound stage that doesn't get congested.

@@DarrellSt.Blaine Thanks for your answer. I have so many reverbs. But I am tempted to buy glow :-) Btw. Epic from Waves also uses AMS reverb. @@Drfresh1402 I have to be 100% honest. Since support for Powercore was dropped I’ve been avoiding using any DSP powered plugins in my studio. So I haven’t heard the UAD one apart from using it a couple of times in another studio. I am very familiar with the original and the 500 series sound. But I would say that the extra functionality and the fact that the plug-in is native (also the price!) is a reason enough to consider it.

When you think of that this at its introduction price cost a mere 25x'th of the UA RMX16 Hardware, this sound extremely close to at least the remake version. Really nice plugin. Espen Kraft beat you to it and showed default settings on the remake hardware and the Glow, and imo the tail of the Glow is almost identical to it, just a slight more mellow in the high end, and without ever using this as it would have been way out of my normal budget back in the 80's, even the remake would 😄, thiss plugin is pretty darn impressive.

The funny thing is: Your ears are so sensible to what your used to hear when you were young. I'm a child of the 80ies. The real 80ies, not that "808 kick drum fake retro 80ies" (BTW: It was Linn at these times!). So when todays producers praise the "crunchy sound" of a plugin my thoughts are "Uhhh ... that's badly and unpleasently distorted!". But at 16:34, when you demonstrate the "smooth" slider, I hear exactly the opposite: A good "crunchy" 80ies drum sound gets degraded to a boring "smooth" sound. Bought the plugin, always wanted the "nonlinear" preset.

Hi dom, I have a question. Why is the vocal track in stereo (the one at the beginning of the video) ? Did you do a stereo recording, or was it just because the plugin only works in stereo? or what else? Sub-question: In a mix, is there any point in switching the voice tracks to stereo even though the recording is in mono? Thanks a lot and very nice 80's style reverb.
@DomSigalas
@DomSigalas Жыл бұрын
The track just happened to be stereo :) the reverb works both in mono and stereo. In actual fact, in real world scenarios I would use it as a send effect for most of the part (like I did with the drums example). Yes, sometimes there is a reason and that is if you want to add stereo effects on a mono track. Imagine a mono electric guitar recording where you want to add a stereo chorus as an insert. In this case you either turn the channel to stereo or send it to a stereo group bus :)
@ghiverlet
@ghiverlet Жыл бұрын
@@DomSigalas Thank you for your answer Dom, The example of the guitar chorus speaks to me a lot. I have been working with cubase for a long time (cubase VST5 actually!). And in the past I often made mistakes by placing mono effects on stereo tracks or by thinking that it was enough to put a stereo effect on a mono track to convert it (a bit like in pro tools). The track conversion tool is obviously the way to go. Good music to all.
