Why are the hardest to find hummingbirds the most beautiful!? I'm relieved that your perseverance paid off! Thankfully Carole, you are full of passion for these delightful miracles, otherwise you may have considered quitting,-congratulations! Carole, persistence be thy middle name! Well done. How low was your O2 Sat at those altitudes?

Usually I run about mid 70's at 12,000 feet. I got down to 61 at 16,000 feet. I stopped taking it, haha! You don't start losing brain cells until you are down in the 50's. Actually, I don't really feel like it's hard to breathe, but walking uphill is like walking through wet cement. Muscles aren't getting enough oxygen. I am sure to always take a supra maximal breath every couple of minutes when I'm up that high and that brings the sat up a bit.

What a grueling, but successful adventure, Carol!! What I would like to know, is what do these hummingbirds eat, and it is winter and cold at 14,000 feet elevation? I did not see and flowers or blooming buds. Are there small insects there? What keeps them going, with their high energy needs? Thank you for this fascinating video!
