Sorry to hear all the struggles you went through. The Zambian immigration can be tough, my mum and I were detained at the airport when we traveled in 2007. It was crazy because they had no specific reasons rather than I had a Canadian passport and my mum had Zambian passport🤦🏽♀️. I heard about section 3, which I think was introduced few years ago. Any children born to a Zambian parent can also have dual citizenship and can also claim land in their tribal land, but you must locate the chief in your land to be given free land. The money issue is very common in Africa. The proverty mentality has really destroyed trust with family and friends. If you want to do business or buy land, you have to be on ground. Never trust anybody including family members. There is a Nigerian youtuber called phrankleen, he talks about the issues of families and friends stealing money from their family in the diaspora. Watching his videos has made me realize that this is a common problem in Africa.

There's no way 17 million Zambians are entitled to "Free tribal land" in their home village, unless they are from a well connected family or at the disgresion of the traditional leaders in charge. Owning land with a title deed requires payment 99% of the time unless it's gifted to you, or some other exception. "Free land" screams no title deeds. Please tell me I'm wrong.
@NatashaM. Жыл бұрын
Actually the free land is just that. Traditional land. Where one can have the right to farm and do other things. Every Zambian has a village they originate from. Within that place you have land that has been passed down for years and years. With migration one can get free land within the area you are residing, by being added as part of a specific village etc. it is a process but it is very true

Was this case on the front page of one of the newspapers a few months ago?... maybe I'm thinking of another recent case whereby many were duped into purchasing the same land not for sale. The agent even had the gall to meet buyers on the farm land to show them and was caught when the farms neighbours got suspicious of the amount of people coming and going. Sorry you've fallen prey to unscrupulous people.

Traditional land is the easiest to acquire just don't use people....go there in person and see the chief. Also the chiefs are different as we have more than 70 ethnic tribes so you may face tribalism in certain areas while on the other hand you may find loving and welcoming people. For maids we have maid centres, make good use of them.
@yawetandovi9118 Жыл бұрын
Don’t you think traditional land works when you are there in person? Natasha was not there. Traditional land is too risky for us diasporans, it involves a lot of paperwork, meeting the chief, activity on the land and so on.
@Josephmanase Жыл бұрын
@@yawetandovi9118 yes that's the point both lands are risky but when it comes to which one is easy to acquire...Traditional is the easiest.....getting land straight from the civic centre is rigged...its kind of political and one may need some political affiliation that's why many people settle for a land which is already in someone name then start the process of changing the name unlike just getting a land which had no previous owner....and also I'd advise you people in diaspora to come even just a month and do a research before sending any money to anyone regardless of how you trust them because the temptation for an average Zambian to think one in diaspora has money is very high.....above all if your business will not be affected by regions(maybe you'll have an online business) I would suggest you get lands on the copperbelt or other places It's ten times cheaper in most cases and less populated.

Really crazy! But I've heard so many horror stories from many African's in the diaspora who want to invest back in the motherland. Zambians are known for scamming their fellow citizens, especially among family. I have a friend who's £50k went in water. The house was partially built with bent walls filled with cracks. The photos he got from his brother was not from his plot. It's always best to engage with a real estate agent and property management company to buy and build your house in Zambia. Sure, its expensive but you're better safe than sorry.
@NatashaM. Жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s really common! Unfortunately we fell prey, to a family friend. The experience I’ve had has been quite frustrating. My parents have also over the years been scammed by friends and family. It is really sad but it teaches you not to trust everyone that seems like they have good intentions. Yeah very true! Hence why I got into the Real Estate industry, not all real estate companies have good intentions hence it being really important to to vet everyone..
@Qibilii Жыл бұрын
@@NatashaM. Yes and ideally I see you don't want other to become victim to the scam of land ownership in Zambia. Good job on that. As a Zambian buying land is about the only advantage of staying in the motherland, and a lot of folks here take advantage and steal money. The many complains of Africans in the diaspora is the lack of trust of the people back home when it comes to investments. We as a people need to work on this because we are better than this. As I leave Zambia in 2023 for 4-5yr stay in the US/UK (graduate school), investing back home is something I'll do but the leg work must be done when I visit. Just shameful we have to talk about this.
@NatashaM. Жыл бұрын
Yes! It is something I would not wish it on my worst enemy. People don’t realize the amount of work and sacrifice one must do to even save a dollar! Unfortunately people here assume that if you have lived in the diaspora you have all this money, not knowing that the same struggles we have in Zambia when it comes to taking care of your family and affording things, is the same out there. It really isn’t helpful with the media showing the West as better that the reality. Struggles are everywhere.

Sorry to hear about what you went through including being scammed by a friend of your family. May you recover what you had lost. Our nation has had bad immigration rules after the MMD came to power in 1990 because they were politically motivated to prevent the first president (KK) whose parents came from Malawi from standing as president again. Unfortunately, the rules affected many people. Thank God that now dual citizenship has been recognised & people like me can now come on a foreign passport & our children can now come without paying visitor visa fees.
