I always forget about the Western Mournes. Wild camping on Eagle Mountain

Planning to walk the Mourne mountains, I realised I hadn't been in the Western Mournes for a while. I always do that. I automatically look at the higher mountains in the Eastern side of the complex and yet the mountains of the west have real beauty. I go walking from Leitrim Lodge to Pierce's Castle. I cross the bog and climb to camp on Eagle Mountain. A truly satisfying camp.

Was great to be out in some good weather again Miriam. Its so good after all the wet, cold, cloudy stuff we've had this spring. It was a beautiful experience. So quiet. Perfect.

Alyn, always a good to get a wee bit of space and the Western Mournes are a good place to do it👍 Haven't crossed that bog in a long time and it was good to see it again (in a drier state) and I agree that bogs are cool👍 You had a glorious evening (always great to have little or no wind when camping up in the mountains) taking in all those views. What a stunner of a morning☀ loved those clouds dancing. Lovely time of year with those big temperature contrasts and great to have t-shirt weather🔥

This may sound stupid Gerry but hiking is a completely different beast when you're walking in the good weather. There's a joy in just being outside. It was really great to be in the Western side again too, so much to see. Im hoping the weather is on the turn now and we get a few more days like that.

Hi Alyn. One of the best sunrises I have seen. The way the clouds started to jump over the mountain as soon as the rays of the sun appeared. Lovely video to highlight why people go to the mountains. All the best 👍

Thanks Andrew. It was so great to have a pretty cloudless sky to. As soon as it came up it was so warm. Beautiful colours and the clouds responding to the heat of the sun is so great. Always worth getting up for.

Thanks so much. It was a great walk and a great night in the tent. Tbh was glad to see it after all the wet, cloudy and cold weather we've been having. The mountains are always a place i can switch off and chill and this was a perfect evening for it.
