When I first got into these guys years ago, one of the best parts was watching live shows. And one of the best parts of that was quickly realizing that just about anything you see on the stage can, and probably will, be lit on fire. The only exceptions to this are the things that project fire or explode. And that's awesome.

In many of their live videos, you can see what appear to be streaks of blood or grease on various band members' arms, faces, or other exposed body parts. It turns out this is a substance that helps prevent burns. After an accident with pyrotechnics early in their career, several of the band members, including Til, became trained and are certified pyrotechnicians. In an interview contained in one of the documentaries about Rammstein, Til says that they wound up going for showy, impressive performances because such a high percentage of their fanbase can't understand the lyrics, so they wanted another way to keep the audience engaged. Whatever else one can say about them, they are definitely hard-working!

It's also the reason the others up front are so precise in their movements. You'll see them stand stiff, crouch and/or moving to exact spots on the stage over the course of their show. It's one of the best choreographed shows I've ever seen. It being done by a band actually playing at the same time is mind blowing. I do have to point out that I know there was a lot of people behind the scenes holding their breath and scrambling the second the one side of the wings went out. Thankfully it didn't reignite, it could have been disastrous. That isn't supposed to happen. Anything that doesn't go exactly as planned with that show could seriously hurt some people, quickly. But man, they put a lot of work into what they do. Won't be another that pushes envelopes like they have over the years. There's places they can't even play because of the dangers in their stage performance. Was shocked that Madison Square allowed it. They couldn't do all that here when they played. Was a very streamline version of their show here.

the deliberate movements and monotone sing-talking is purposeful to show the weight of Till's wings. The wings are metaphorical in that Till is a fallen angel. He laboriously comes up from the depths of hell to make his tortured confession, then slowly descends back to the pit under the weight of his own sins. IMHO.

@@stefanalt2110 Well, I don't agree with the 1st sentence in @astranoutinthesubmarine's OP at all (Rammstein being a definition of Germany) but most of the second sentence (dire, etc.) is kinda true. It's a generalization of course but Germans and even German itself is more direct IMO. And those attributes fit both Rammstein & Germany. But that doesn't make Germany defined by Rammstein. More like the other way around - some cliches/truths about German/y/s are strongly (re)presented by Rammstein.

That's what his face and posture is trying to convey - and he does it very effectively, I must say! 👍 That whistle isn't done live, by the way ;) They do fake it nicely by standing close to their microphones but: It's too consistent on every show I've seen (I've seen a few 😉) Rammstein do incorporate a LOT of humour in their music, but certainly take their shows incredibly seriously. And it's absolutely the full package when you see (or rather: experience) them live.

11:30 You can definitely get the proper sound as long as it’s performed well on that stage. Even though there’s so much going on on the stage, sound-wise it shouldn’t be so loud as everyone’s wearing in ear monitors. Other than that, there are absolutely backing tracks on Rammstein stage, so those whistles may also be pre-recorded. But there were imperfections in the intro for sure, that makes me think at least the intro was live.

Rammstein has to be seen live, because they are a weapon there and the incredible crowd control is a trademark of them and no matter in which country they play, the audience sings in German like in Paris. The action with the fireworks did not even take place in a stadium but in a hall ( Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy) and would be unthinkable in e.g. America due to their immense safety regulations. If they go on tour there, the fans will miss a lot and will never get to see many really wicked effects! By the way Til does this specific move, called "Til Hammer" cause he had dislocated his knee before a concert and repeatedly hit it in the backstage area to bring it back in. The other band members found this movement totally cool so that he he adopted it for the stage ! Apart from the fact that Til is a trained pyrotechnician, at Rammstein concerts a special stage worker is very close to the stage and is connected by a microphone to the person who controls the fire. He feels the temperature on his cheek and gives corresponding instructions whether you can still step it up a notch or the flames have to be reduced. Another pure madness with with the audience - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHLEenmLjc9nY5o At another concert Til greets his band members, who are carried back to the main stage in a rubber dinghy with a "Welcome - Sign". A political statement for the refugees who have drowned by the thousands in the Mediterranean Sea. Please look at the live performance of "Ich will" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sICVpWaBhrKDhrs - (with english subtitles) ". Rock am Ring" is the biggest festival events in Germany. Rammstein was the Headliner and there are more than 80.000 fans on the target line and I was right in the middle and not only the few thousand hardcore fans directly in front of the stage answer Til's questions, but actually the entire audience down to the last row and to have been there and to feel the concentrated energy of the audience was just indescribable ! At some point Rammstein discovered that you can make up with instant coffee. According to concentration, black to red spots appear, which looks like dirt or blood. Flake was hyper nervous all the time during an earlier tour. What did he forget ? That he was made up with lots of coffee in the evening during every concert - Maybe the reason why he needs a treadmill 😉 In my opinion without Flake Rammstein would never have been what they are. Again and again he is only moved into the nerd corner and underestimated enormously. What most people remember is only the treadmill he is running on while playing. Most of the Rammstein pieces are backed by a mostly inconspicuous but sometimes bombastically symphonic sound body combined with techno elements and so much more. It´s done so cleverly that it is hardly noticeable in the foreground. But if you take it out of the equation and mix it away at the mixer console, the rest sounds almost like any metal band. Together with the typical Rammstein monster guitar riffs the keyboards in the background fill up the entire sound, make things round, and not at least because of this, Rammstein sounds so unique This melodic sound together with the unbelieveble power that Rammstein brings over is also to be seen here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6KXYnmjrJp2fas - kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5uqf4endrxobqc - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIPbiGiMr8qiZqM (here you can see Til flying) Exactly this concert in Germany took place about 20 km from where I lived and you could still hear it over a hill in between and see the light show flickering in the distance. You could clearly experience the sound level at which Rammstein are traveling🤯 ? ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, this performance was nominated for the Grammy ? - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3fTm4CEgN2mpKM - The song is based on a true story that happened in Germany. A cannibale looked for someone on the Internet who could be eaten by him and also found someone. Just google "The Rothenburg Cannibal". TOTALLY WHACKY. Richard Kruspe tells the story in an interview on the DVD "In Amerika" released in 2015. First the police arrested Paul Landers off the stage and then one by one, the sound became thinner and thinner as the other band members were arrestet and at some point he put his guitar down and turned himself to the cops. For Rammstein, who had come together in the former GDR, the left dictatorial eastern part of divided Germany, America was in their imagination the "land of unlimited possibilities" in which you can do pretty much anything. After a night in jail they know that it was a really stupid idea to perform anything like that in a big city in the "Bible Belt" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/poO7nHePibh0oJY - In Germany, this kind of thing doesn't upset (almost) anyone anymore - we're a little more relaxed there. One of the best titles by Rammstein but not as well known is Donaukinder" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZqQmquLpLx0hbc - it´s not live but underpinned by Franzisco Navarro with scenes from the film "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". But be careful, because for those who have even dealt with the Holocaust a little, this is really hard stuff! "Wo sind die Kinder" - "Where are the children" alludes to the fact that in German death camps, women and children were gassed first so that no more Jews could grow up or be born. "Keiner weiß, was hier geschehen, keiner hat etwas gesehen" means "Nobody knows what happened here, nobody saw anything" refers to the fact that very few Germans wanted to have known about the concentration camps, which of course was complete nonsense.

The female voice you hear is Christiane "Bobo" Hebold. She is amazing. She is in Rammsteins old music video and she is singing in a cage. ;)

beautiful video, as always!! :) I think it would be really nice to hear you analyze the song "That's My Heart," also created by Till Lindemann, but with his other band, named "Lindemann"

There are a couple of pre recorded parts, the whistling, and the female vocal part that comes in. So many bands use some backing tracks now days, synced to the light show, to make for a fantastic concert. There was some controversy last year with KISS in Australia performing at a sports event, where it was so obviously mimed and heavily padded with backing tracks, and sounding like a studio version almost, yet they claim to be "Live", that is unfortunate, as they probably would not live up to fans expectations without doing that.
@chadbennett78739 ай бұрын
I would agree the whistling would need to be pre-recorded considering the manner in which they depict it. Try whistling, then move something close to your mouth, like a hand. It's far more difficult to whistle, as the wind needs space, and the microphone would impede that sound. Yeah, pre-recorded backing has come a long way since Milli Vanilli. Hahaha. This is seriously one of the most impressive live performances ever.

Well, Ramstein gets a complete pass by me because I don’t just consider them a band. I could consider them a group of multifaceted artists.
@module79l289 ай бұрын
They don't need to pre-record the backing tracks, they just use the studio tracks like everyone else who uses backing tracks for sounds that can't be replicated live.

@@chadbennett7873 I just tried it. And yes, even bringing my hand close to my embouchure (music term for mouth posture, which applies to wind instruments) I was still able to maintain tone, pitch, and volume. 🤷♂️

Always enjoy your reactions, thank you. Speaking of Rammstein, would love to see you react to Nina Hagen’s cover of their song Seemann. She’s got a ridiculous vocal range. In this song she explores of course the lower part of said range quite extensively. In fact, I believe she starts the song somewhat lower than Till.

Great video and analysis, thank you! Tickets for Rammstein shows are actually borderline cheap given how much you get, it is such an amazing show if not the greatest show ever for a concert - at least I'm not aware of anything that is even remotely in this league.

I’ve been a huge Rammstein fan since I was a teenager. I’ve heard every studio and live recording of this song, and I believe the whistling is a playback of the original studio recording due to the perfect reproduction in each performance. I think that the guitarists Richard and Paul are just pursing their lips for showmanship.

You should react to ohne dich by them, it’s more like a calm song, you hear the singers voice very well but at the same time the whole band

I remember this as one of the coolest concert scenes I ever witnessed, saw this in Leipzig, Germany back in the day. The stage that essentially disassembles itself at the end was just something else xD

Rammstein are one of a kind, for sure. I loved their most recent album. I don't know if there are any good live performances of it (I'm not aware of any official recordings, which I think this was). But if you find any, it would be interesting to see you react to them. Otherwise the studio versions themselves are still great. And then, of course, there's their entire back catalogue. I'm on mobile so I can't list everything, but one recommendation that I MUST make is the piano version of Mein Herz Brennt. It might be good to react to the normal rock version as well so as to really understand the difference, but the piano version in particular is one of the very best things they've ever done.

Love Rammstein! Would also love to see you react to a cover of their song Seemann by Apocalyptica and Nina Hagen. I believe she has a crazy six octave vocal range and in the song she spectacularly shows off the lower parts of her range.

The dedication to their craft is second to none. In the music video for 'Ich Tu Dir Weh' Till appears to have a cable going through a hole in the side of his cheek and into his mouth to power a light. THAT'S REAL! He had his cheeck pierced so he could do it properly instead of using special effects like most people would
