I mean just think about the percentage of employees that are bringing in more money than they make, or even close to the amount of money they make. The average Barstool employee get's what, 10k views on youtube? If you combine all of those people's ad revenue it's equivalent to the viewership of a mildly famous person. He's got to be losing money on pretty much every employee there bar Dan and PFT. Even their most watched live show, the yak, can't be worth the 7 salaries on it. What do they average 5k live viewership? Hundreds of individuals on twitch average that themselves and this is Barstools BIGGEST show! This isn't some media empire, it's a company that was used as a way to give Penn's gambling bid legitimacy and allowed a bunch of people with limited work ethic to skate by for years. Check out some of the content that's being put out it's comes across so amateur, and not in like an old funny barstool way, like a I threw this together in the 15 minutes before class kinda vibe meanwhile there's a dozen people contributing to it. Dave would maximize the money he makes by firing 95% or more of the "content creators," the viewership would drop like 2%,.

Old School Salesman here. Comp plans have gotten so complicated these days, it's just hard to even track how your making money. EBITA, percentage over plan, margin, put these numbers in a spreadsheet and see what spits out.... if it's more complicated than what can be explained on the back of a napkin, its too complicated. Sell more, make more. If the salesman is killing it, that means the company is killing it. Good to hear someone still has that mentality.

"less base salary" is what every good salesman actually loves to hear. Harder work, more sales = better commissions than any salary could give you and everyone is happy as long as the rates are fair.

Sales people are your revenue generators (I'm one) vs other staff that are overhead or a "cost" to the company. A good comp plan where if you sell more you make more is a motivator. Lots of companies today give a higher base to cap their sales costs, but then take away the incentive to make more and your good sales people will leave.

Too much based on commission breeds unethical behaviour. If your total package is fair you should be motivated by actually wanting to do a good job and succeed, which keeps everyone employed

Most plans are a 60/40 split (60% base with a 40% variable) and gives you a nice balance of base pay to live on and a variable with accelerators when you go over 100%.

I've been in sales most of my life and ALWAYS the #1 or #2 person. I hate a base salary, because it means you aren't getting paid what you're worth. My favorite is 100% commission based 1099 sales position. Make my checks out to my S Corp, not me personally. LFG!
