I wish I could find those situations more often lol 15 games and I've yet to just murder face in an all out brawl. I'm just chalking it up to the offensive power being too anemic to one hit KO anyone. Guess it should be more of a mid range brawler, area denial ship?

Thank you for the great review and honest feedback...in the reviews I have watched, one ship jumps out to me...the Odin...which is my favorite ship in the game...this one is similiar...great armor, small fast firing guns, decent movement speed...of course Karl has the killer torps and better secondaries..but they play the same..this could be a heavy cruiser kind of playstyle or pure brawler...either way I dig it. :)

As someone who owns this on PC i can speak on this topic. On console this ship is a shell of the PC version.The guns,torps,EVERYTHING is better on PC. I have played it on console about a dozen times and am shocked at what a bad job wg did on implementing it on console. I will never take it out again.

its Pan Euro so its going to be hard to play. Helfrich is my pick. spec concealment or movement with fully packed. 16-3 Fraser, 16-3 helhrich, and 16-2 Geparette will get you moving fast.

i too am very disappointed. ive been asking for this ship ever since it was first announced and its translation here is simply tragic. i think the devs grossly misunderstood the potential of the ship, and believed it would be stronger than it actually is, and as such gutted all the selling points of karl (i.e. its concealment and torp range). while i am happy that the ship is here in legends finally, its just such an extreme let down to see how they have molded the ship. and i too, run a main battery build and find the xp seemingly very low. its a sad state of affairs

Maybe that's why? I mean part of me thinks 13.5km torps and 2.4km better conceal would make this ship absolutely cracked...perhaps they didn't want another insane campaign ship (Jean Bart, Sommers CE, Mainz CE)

Trust the HE my guy. This is pretty much Anhalt that trades a turret for more torp launchers. I love my Anhalt (with 65% WR). I play it exactly as you said, perma fires with your many gun barrels, kite/bait or full push with dakka depending on current situation, uppercut them with torps, or kite away angled and burn them to death.

@@captainphilips5469 Actually not true, Karl has the same dispersion, but actually better sigma. Karl's HE DPM is greater. Anhalt's bigger guns doesn't translate to more damage when the shell damage value is so low

I dont have the ship, but purely from watching CC's play with her you can definitely tell she is just a massive tease constantly blue balling you. Every single time you pulled the trigger in this game, I expected more oomph on hit, every time your secondaries took flight, I expected more fires, and every time you launched your torps, I felt let down when the mediocre damage numbers popped up. What makes people want to play a ship is that dopamine feeling that comes whenever something unexpected or awesome happens. Karl just doesn't provide that, and constantly makes you feel let down whenever you expect something good to happen. Is she a jack of all trades that can do a little bit of everything? Sure. But if you feel blue balled every time you take her for a spin then what's the point? Sad about it.

Thats a pretty valid point and I think we agree entirely on why this ship doesn't seem to be performing. There just doesn't seem to be a knock out punch ability. Weak broadside from 305s, inaccurate and inconsistent secondaries, weak torp alpha

The days of us getting a superstar campaign ship are long gone. They’re not gonna put out something that really strong that they have to fix later. Some of the best ships in the game were campaign ships. Mainz, Wichita, Somers, Ochakov etc. sadly I missed those cause I was taking a break but I did get the Mainz. At this point I’m happy to get the campaign whatever the ship is. I like to have something to grind for and it really is a good deal plus if nothing else, next time Windroses come out, you’ve got another tier 8 ship which usually has the best rewards

Hey Derka. After hours of gameplay with different builds (secondary build with Hipper and AL Bismarck), ans several hybrid builds i must say, these ship is not really good. It lacks and it is very inconsistent. AP is bad, secondarys pins nothing, even with Bismarck. So why i should take this ship when i have e Ruprecht in my port. He is better, on every stage!

I wonder if the Karl XIV Johan would work slightly better (emphasis on slightly) as a support ship...which I'll admit is not a very exciting concept. I've seen a few comments out there comparing it to the Tirpitz, but as a long-time fan of that ship I can say that the Tirpitz is better in my opinion. The way I see the Johan, if one has the Prinz Rupprecht, then the motivation to play the Johan disappears.

@@DerkaGames i love the design of schröder myself, but the game play does take a bit of getting use to. I personally stopped playing full secondaries, and start using muller for the Ap pen increase. It's actually doing much better for me that getting murdered brawling lol. However as soon as commander Augustin comes out again I'm definitely going to make a Ap pen build with him which should increase the pen by 11, and maybe with some adjustments in pen angles it'll make it really good 🤷‍♂️

German HE is specific in a sense, and you mentioned this in the beginning. karl johan despite being a rupprecht clone with smaller guns has no improved HE pen secondaries and main battery HE, the trade off german HE has for this increased Pen is lower damage so using the Agir and german ships with 305s as a comparison shell wise can't be made accurate, the Ap on germans have a higher alpha base too, funny how you use Agir primary guns as an example when it's definitely based on a secondary battle-cruiser and the primary guns are tragically inaccurate. Good vid otherwise 👍

I am disappointed in the reward/ loyalty ships the last 2 years though. I don’t expect a free legendary tier ship, but something that’s at least slightly above average, or maybe even historically significant would be nice. At least we have a captain for the Mysore thanks to Brisbane! Now I can test out Murray’s smoke skills…🙄. The ship seems kind of meh. Again. Thanks for your in depth, honest review. Always appreciate your opinions. I have most ships in the game as I’ve played since the beginning, but many just sit in port. I find myself watching random reviews of yours, then taking that ship out with your suggestions in hand.
