I agree with your enthusiasm! I love musicals, but I never saw wicked on stage or listen to any of the score in all these years!!! ( I know where have I been?) so going into the movie, somewhat blind, except for the trailers, the movie blew me away.! This may very well be the best musical adaptation to film in history, the cinematography, the sets, the costuming, the perfect casting, and the singing is off the charts.! I’ve seen it twice now and I can’t wait to see it again. There is so much to absorb.
@steviehills4256Ай бұрын
Ozdust Ball & Defying Gravity were my favourite scenes. Seeing her younger self in the reflection. Her past & future self reaching out to each other, they make contact & it's the broom she grabs. Her singing "it's me" is Elphaba realising that the thing she never felt that she couldn't find a word for was herself & that catharsis is what fuels her rise to singing "it's me!"
@daniellemariesings27 күн бұрын
Yes!! I forgot to talk about that scene but i LOVED the ozdust! It was so beautiful!!
@dlolive999024 күн бұрын
Fun fact: in interviews the director and Cynthia both said while she was singing I’m not that girl the birds that started to nest in the set actually started singing with her because they resonated so much with the frequency of her vocals🤯

AGREED!!!! To see my beloved Wicked at last… I was not ready. The beauty alone coupled with the orchestra and their voices gave me emotional breakdowns of joy throughout.

Cynthia has more colors on her palette than any singer I've heard. She is classically trained, is thoroughly versed in the old-time jazz singers, is ama,ing in gospel and rhythm and blues. She considers the story she wants to tell with the song and chooses where she places the song and what key. May I suggest her concert at the Albert Hall. She pays tribute to singers as diverse as Nina Simone, Aretha Franklyn (She was nominated for an Emmy for playing Aretha in a miniseries) and Shirley Bassey. I would love to hear your reactions. Also, her amazing performance of Alfie for Dionne Warwick is mind blowing.

I’ve had no one to talk to-scratch that-RANT to about this movie, so thank you for posting! 🙌 This movie was everything, and it really built onto the Broadway musical in a way I didn’t think was possible. I adore the movie just as much as Broadway-and even more somehow. So good! I saw it twice last weekend, and I plan to see it this weekend because my theater finally put it in the IMAX ! But yeah, this immediately became my new comfort movie. It’s just so good. Everyone and everything was more amazing than I knew was possible.
@rjs2035Ай бұрын
I waited a week to see it for the big theater crowds to pass, then I bought tickets online and ended up getting a late IMAX showing ALL TO MYSELF. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had! I didn't do it to sing along or talk, I did it so I didn't have to worry about anyone else doing that, and was it ever amazing. Highly recommend.

The funny thing is that, even in the og Wizard of Oz books, the Wizard is definitely kinda bad. They dont bring it up in the Wizard of Oz film, but he deposed the king of Oz and basically kidnapped the princess and forced her to live with the Wicked Witch of the North.
@oh.sorry.dont.mind.meeeeeАй бұрын
yes, but even in the 1939 movie he is a charlatan, a con man, a fraud, a liar. he's "the man behind the curtain", he has to use pyrotechnics and a giant mask to fool people into fearing him. and as far as I remember he doesn't have any magic so he can't actually grant them any wishes he just gives them objects and tells them that they are better now. she already had the shoes all along, and the power was within her.
@GessAtti14 күн бұрын
Yeah, in all versions or adaptations, it's clear that he's not really good, even in the movie they made about the wizard (with James Franco), it's clear that he's selfish, manipulative, and doesn't care about truly hurting those who love him.

I think it's a travesty that Moana 2 is beating it in the Box Office.
@daniellemariesingsАй бұрын
Wait what?! How!!!
@jayvansickle7607Ай бұрын
@@daniellemariesings My assumption is that it's simply more "receivable" (if that's the right term) to a larger audience. People know what they're getting with Moana, and the kids want to see it. A lot of people are making assumptions about Wicked...and aren't seeing it, even though non musical people are loving it as well.
@AntsTheaterCorner2698Ай бұрын
@@jayvansickle7607It's not beating it, these two films are actually helping each other. One is a fun adventurous musical with unforgettable music and the other is a pleasant distraction for kids with short attention span. That's at least my way of seeing it. Wicked is actually doing better than Moana, two critically and in terms of overall scores. Moana too. Just got released around the world in more territories and that's why it's doing better. Wicked is catching up and has now been released in multiple other territories and don't even get me started on China when that releases on December 6th. Let's also count these sing-along screenings that are going to be absolutely nuts during the holiday season. This is just going to be a billion dollar film, it's just going to happen. I know it. People are starting to see how much better this film really is and also how much better it is than Gladiator 2 of all films. It's a film that the most critical of people are finding enjoyment in and those that hate musicals love it too. The fact that there's people that hate musicals that are loving this film really speaks to its quality. Don't even get me started on its Awards potential, it's only getting started and it's going to continue to dominate.
@moonlightblairАй бұрын
ikr! but that is kinda given since Moana is a Disney property and a beloved one at that too and it is very much targeted towards kids and that’s a large market. i also think the first Moana is the most streamed movie of all time in the last five years and not just on D+ but i think overall too so it’s really a no brainer it’s a juggernaut in the box office tho i think it is not being received well as much as the first movie, it’s getting decent reviews but that’s about it nothing to rave about i heard
@AntsTheaterCorner2698Ай бұрын
@moonlightblair The general consensus is that Wicked is going to skyrocket in its third weekend. We'll Moana to could plummet as much as 95 to 96%. . It's understandable given how poor the word of mouth for Moana 2 actually is.
