Director Ranjith talks to The New Indian Express about the time he and Mammootty worked together in the movie 'Paleri Manikyam'. He says that Mammootty wasn't in the film initially, but when the actor called him up and asked to be in the movie, he was given the three roles including that of Murikunkunnath Kunjahammad Haji, in the movie.

Without doubt.. he is a great film maker.. his works like Thirakadha, Paleri manikyam, Kaiyoppu.. just great.. but after a few success thinks like success got over his head and the result was Loham, Drama, Puthen panam, Kadal kadanna mathutty etc. He he takes criticism very negatively. Head weight really spoils talent
