The song was written by Mercy Sister Suzanne Toolan, who was teaching at a high school in the San Francisco Bay area. She didn't quite like the song, so she threw it in a wastebasket. One of her students retrieved it and convinced her to reconsider. I'm sure glad she did. And hey, it's got a great bass part.

@Joshua Lopez I am. Not Roman Catholic, but Evangelical Catholic, aka Lutheran.
@sarco644 жыл бұрын
@Joshua Lopez Martin Luther was adamant that the doctrine of justification is the doctrine on which the church stands or falls. I think that the Lutheran understanding of this doctrine is truer to scripture than the RC understanding, which is that justification is a lifelong transformation of the believer Lutherans believe that justification is a gift which we receive by grace through faith. When we are united with Christ through faith, His perfect righteousness is credited to us, and our sin is credited to Him. As Romans 5:1 states, we HAVE BEEN justified through faith. This justification serves as the basis for our lifelong transformation into more Christ-like people, which Lutherans refer to as sanctification. This transformation does not contribute to our justification, rather it flows from our justification.

Love this! This performance omits two of Sister Toolan's verses. Here are the lyrics: I am the bread of life. He who comes to me shall not hunger; he who believes in me shall not thirst. No one can come to me unless the Father draw him. And I will raise him up, and I will raise him up, and I will raise him up on the last day. The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world, and he who eats of this bread, he shall live for ever, he shall live for ever. And I will raise him up, and I will raise him up, and I will raise him up on the last day. Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, and drink of his blood, you shall not have life within you. And I will raise him up, and I will raise him up, and I will raise him up on the last day. I am the resurrection, I am the life. He who believes in me even if he die, he shall live for ever. And I will raise him up, and I will raise him up, and I will raise him up on the last day. Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who has come into the world. And I will raise him up, and I will raise him up, and I will raise him up on the last day.

You will notice that the male pronouns have been subjected in this rendition. I wonder why? Do people really find it offensive that the original lyrics were - 'I will raise HIM up'?
