Yoga Nidra never ceases to surprise me. Every time I practice it I feel clearer, calmer, and more rested. It can be hard to give yourself an hour to pay attention to your body, but it is well worth it. I initially gave it a try because I figured the worst that would happen was I would take an extra nap that day. So do it! Don't put it off, take a half hour for yourself and enjoy :)

Hi Gladys, yes tears are a beautiful release and healing. It is not necessary that we know why even, rather to allow ourselves to let the tears flow.

Liam if your such a big shot you would know the elements of yoga nidra include all these elements! internalisation, sankalpa, rotation of consciousness, breath awareness, manifestation of opposites, creative visualization, sankalpa and externalisation).

No, you are describing a classical Satyananda-style yoga nidra. This is an Amrit-style yoga nidra. They are simply different presentations of related techniques to help you reach glimpses of Samadhi and Turiya. Both move through the 5 koshas, with minor variations. Swami Rama of the Himalayas has yet another version that ultimately trains the practitioner to achieve conscious deep sleep (the actual state of yoga nidra and not the techniques used to achieve it) and maintain it on command, which is the end goal of all yoga nidras. (His followers say that Satyananda-style and other yoga nidras are not true yoga nidra.) Clinical psychologist Dr. Richard Miller created his own version from these called iRest (integrative restoration) to make it more palatable in the West since yoga nidra is powerful enough to heal PTSD, but Veteran Affairs and the US military were not that keen on therapies with the word yoga or meditation (likely due to thinking it's a hippy-dippy thing along with xenophobic and chauvinistic sentiments at the time). There are new variants emerging all the time, and yoga nidras can be fused with other techniques, such as Satipatthana to give rise to bodhi nidra, or used in combination with pranayama and mudras, such as in the case of prana nidra, to expedite healing. All of the yoga nidras provide their own unique benefit like the different herbs or medicinal plants you grow in a garden. I too thought that this was not what was in Swami Satyananda's blue book, but I kept exploring. Different schools provide us different maps to achieve Self-realization. Once you compare and contrast them, you see that the final destination is the same.

@Let’sDoMath Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this very enlightening information ... it is lovely to know the background of this beautiful practice - and it is so much more beneficial to all of us than a personal attack on the person who provided us with this beautiful meditation, at no cost to us! And it is a beautiful meditation in its own right, unique in every sense, delivered by a very kind, thoughtful human being, for the benefit of all.🙏🏻❤️

I like this very much - makes me feel a bit hopeful about finding, at last, a meditation that works for me. But I am noticing that as the novelty wears off (even though I've only done it for 2 weeks at most), it seems harder for me to keep my mind quiet and free of the many ideas I have. Then I am also assigning a grade to the quality of my effort/experience. This is frustrating! But thank you for making this.

Hi Liam, will your Yoga Nidra practice help me sleep? I have had insomnia for more than 15 months now and nothing has helped. If it does, do I need to use this video before bedtime or any time during the day? Thanks.
@AmritYoga3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, it would be most impactful to practice Yoga Nidra 2-3 times a day to start. If you can only practice once a day, try it just before bed time. Take special care to arrange your environment for minimal distraction (such as silencing your phone and turning off any unnecessary lights) and prepare to your body and mind to be as still as possible during the meditation (perhaps adding some cushioning under the knees or using an eye pillow.) Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.

In the west, what is called "Yoga Nidra" is simply preparatory practice for Yoga Nidra . . . or it is Therapy. It is not Yoga Nidra propper. Yoga Nidra is what Budhadharma calls Dream yoga. Like the Ghita says, "The awakened yogi is fully conscious in their sleep." Yoga Nidra means "Yogic Sleep".

Hi Liam and Amrit Yoga Institute. Thanks allot for this, it's amazing!!! I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THIS GUIDED PRACTICE Can i use this practice if i have shyness and social phobia? I have been practicing spirituality for almost 2 years now and all my 7 chakra's are very active. I am a beginner of Yoga Nidra though and only done this Yoga Nidra practice for 5 days now. Is this Yoga Nidra for beginners also? Since doing this meditation my energy has been flowing 3 times stronger and increased silence. Although my fears are worrying about this, i am super relaxed and very focused and concentration is good and it's what i have been looking for but afraid my fears will take over and something will happen if energy gets stronger. My questions are: 1. Is this practice balanced and is it not un-grounded since this practice is focusing more on the third eye? 2. Can you do this practice without professional help, as were i stay there are no retreats? I am heart broken to stop this practice so PLEASE ANY ADVICE OR ANSWERS WILL BE GREAT. Thank you very much
@liamgillen7 жыл бұрын
Sorry Johanna that i did not get to reply when you posted this. In answering your questions: this practice is incredibly balanced and will allow your body to balance itself as you let go into it. The thoughts of fear are just that, 'thoughts' that were initially designed to 'keep you safe'. If we are not in physical danger then I can allow these fear thoughts to come into my awareness, thank them for their desire to protect me and then let them pass on. The yoga nidra practice actually allows you to release attachment to unhelpful thoughts while you are doing the meditation! You can practice this meditation by yourself, you can play the recording and have a group listen to it, have no fear of anything happening that is not for your well being.

It use to be easy to find real yoga nidra sessions. Body scan of coarse, but series of visuals, sensing body heavy and light, remembering pleasure and pain, and of coarse a sancopa or special intention. This is very good guided meditation but NOT yoga nidra.

:-) I thought this was quite awful, never mind the seven hour superfluous introduction, all the squeezing and grunting stuff is quite unnecessary. You don't need to be doing physical jerks while doing yoga, there are much much better yoganidra sessions out there, this is nursery steps at best, but would put most beginners off going any further
@letsdomath17504 жыл бұрын
This is a different style (Amrit) from what you are used to (probably Satyananda or Rama). They provide different benefits initially, but they all move through the 5 koshas and give you glimpses of Samadhi and Turiya all the same.
