Your humor and style are infectious, you do know that box, and nuts have a bit of a different meaning in the States, along with dropping the occasional F bombs 😅 I would have blown up over the solder splat, but you’re much too cool, and said “isn’t that pretty ?”. Colin, I always look forward to your weekly videos, I’ve learned so much and the people who watch always leave such interesting and detailed comments. I laughed when you listed trying to do a PRS video but not being inspired. I’ll share the few brands and models I’ve been researching lately, maybe some might interest you for further exploration. I am really interested right now in the Gretsch Corvette or as it’s been renamed, the CVT. To me some of the lower end PRS models look like a lame copy of the Corvette. I like that some early Corvettes had a single HiLoTron, so they were a ‘Gretsch Junior’. And there were interesting 60s models of them, the Peppermint Twist, the Princess, the sparkle Dukes. And they have better upper neck access compared to lots of Gretsch models. And, well, they look cool. Better than a PRS design to my eye. The Hofner Galaxie or Galaxy is another one I’ve been looking at, there were reissues of those 10 or 15 years ago, and reissues of Kay guitars…like the Thin Jim. Also a bunch of Hagströms I’ve been reading up on…the HIII, the Alvar, and the Impala or Condor. And the 67 Viking, the Pat smear signature, and the Ultra Swede too. This week I brought home an Epiphone Casino Coupe. Sorry to mention Epiphone, but happy to get this turquoise 339 sized Casino. That Starcaster is nice to see again, glad you settled on focusing on it.

A very inspiring video for smart and skilled people like you. Unfortunately, I do not have these features, yes, tightening the screw etc. would still be possible, but otherwise I do not undertake major repairs or modifications. I would feel sorry for my guitars because they wouldn't deserve my intervention. Nevertheless, I have a long-term plan to try a small modification on some older and cheap guitars. But my inner controlling eye tells me, my God, don't get involved in things you don't fully understand. I lack knowledge, I do have some tools, but even in my old age I would rather acquire at least the theoretical knowledge. You are doing a great job. I wish you a nice weekend in the UK. I truly believe there is a part of the brain that solves spatial problems like that wiring harness, and it just does not exist in my brain. Its just impossible for me to visualize those pots in upside down. At the end, I'd have a wire trapped on the outside, running from the pickup cav to the f-hole, and I'd go, "Awe, goddamnit" and get pissed off about it. That mirrored effect of thinking about it from the top? I feel like that's a specific part of the brain, and mine sucks at it. I'm impressed, man. No access panel for me means I'm sending it away to a guy.
@joek819818 ай бұрын
I'll tell you why I come here and why I subscribed. I first came to hear an pro's thoughts on the guitar I wanna buy next. Almost always there's a video on the one I wanted, or one you've got which I didn't even know they made. I subscribed to this channel because I know I don't have to pass any of that information thru a sieve the whole time I'm watching, trying to parse WHO is telling me this and for que bono. That's not an issue here. Its also in my goldilocks zone of the size of a channel I find enjoyable. Too big a channel and the corporate creep starts to come in.
@joek819818 ай бұрын
Also, when a channel gets huge, I feel a loss of personability with the creator, in some mildly unhealthy, parasocial way. I feel like I'm about as important to Anderton's as I am to Kettle One Vodka. It doesn't really make a difference to them how much I buy, there's no "community" there.

I feel the same way about PRS's with wrap tails and veneer tops. They all look the same to me. Generic. The only one that I've taken a liking to is the McCarty .594 singlecut. I found a standard version in vintage cherry that has beautifully matched pieces of mahogany, and weighs exactly 8lbs after extensive mods. The standards have cream binding instead of clear coated maple cap edge. I find it interesting that the more expensive customs have clear or blackbacks and no binding?

Is your Starcaster's pickguard linked to the ground ?
@theguitaristas9 ай бұрын
I sold that starfire now so can't check, but often it's the material they are made with and it's static electricity build up... sometimes it goes with time, or you can try rubbing anti static laundry cloths on it and it may improve

I’d also guess that the 21k people who watched that are your most loyal and grateful viewers. So that’s hardly a failure. And 21k people is A LOT. I'm interested in the decline in Epiphone value for money idea (although there's a parallel with most brands in fact). When they were fairly well built, reasonably playing, reasonably sounding guitars at £300 ($350), there was a strong argument. Over the last 15 years, I don't see any much of an increase in build quality or sound, but the prices are now £700 to 1300 ($800-1400). To me this is pure market opportunism.

Hi Colin. Big fan of your channel so please don't take this as anything but constructive criticism: this video came off as whining. The "woe is me, being a KZbinr is so hard, people don't watch the videos I work the hardest on" etc. is something every KZbinr seems to experience at some point. I totally get it can suck sometimes, but these types of videos are hard to watch. If you make the content you think is good, an audience that appreciates it will find you. Not every video will be a hit. Complaining won't change that. You make good stuff, I look forward to it every Friday morning. Keep up the good work, hope you find your way out of this slump and get that perp back in your step ❤

As you often implore your listeners to do, I enjoy putting on the kettle grabbing a cup of tea and following along as you test and transform guitars and breakout new pickup and wiring combinations. G'day Colin, Thanks for another great video. Just thought I'd send something regarding your "click-bait" comments. I would suggest that you channel your "inner Quinten Tarrantino", and tell the KZbin algorhythm to "go suck a dick". There are some of us in the Southern Hemisphere, who make up a shopping list on Friday afternoons, knowing that you'll be online later in the evening, telling us to get a drink, or something to munch on. We're your fans, and are above & beyond any algorhythm that can be written for YT. Face it - we're the ones who are putting their equations out of balance. I'm sure that there are similar people (fans) in the Northern Hemisphere who make the same shopping lists too - just on a different day. So, just don't sweat it mate. Also, your Epiphone show idea interests me. I can send you an email about my Epiphone experiences, if it will help. Keep up the good work Andrew BTW, it's summer here, so my shopping list was some milk for the coffee, and 2l of chocolate ripple ice cream. Let’s get back to the PRS SE issue…I’ve become a pretty big fan of them, At first, they seem to be cookie cutter, pretty, almost plastic instruments… flame tops, exposed maple edges, posing as binding, uniform rosewood fingerboards, polished frets…etc, etc. So you sit down, and play them for awhile, and realize that they have, exactly what you complain about, with other brands, perfected perfectly. The next thing you know, you start gigging with them, your other guitar player starts buying them, and you begin to understand that Paul Reed Smith, is producing, from the SE range, to the S2s, to the core models, simply the best guitars on the market, today! They really are the most, bang for the buck (for you Brit’s) pop for the pound, instruments on the market! I’m serious here…Cheers, Colin…Your channel is Tops!

No worries, Colin, I always enjoy your videos. Your style is so chill, like hanging out with you, even though we don't actually know each other. Cheers!

Hollowbody guitars are a complete ball ache to do a wiring loom. Not my idea of a good time.

I don't know much about the algorithm, but this is the kind of content I prefer. I am also a luthier/tech/modifier etc... So this is very interesting for me and you are a super funny guy who reminds me of an old friend of mine. It would be interesting to see a "VS" video of this guitar and some modified Epiphone 335. "What can you do with a budget guitar AND $250" sort of thing...

HA! I just found your "335 vs the competition" video. Nice!

You can now get metric CTS pots so that you don't have to modify the body. Axes r US in the UK and Philadelphia Luthier Tools & Supplies, for USA.
