I am very shocked that recruiters seem to decide very largely in the US who gets invited to Interviews. This is not typical in my experience here in Germany. We just get access to all applications via our online System, flag the ones we find the most suitable and our HR/recruitment team looks over them and gives their opinion afterwards. It's always a joined discussion with the department having the last word.

Actually, it isn’t that hard to be invited to a first round interview, which is all done on the phone. This experiment shows exactly that: it is easy to get the phone interview. Notice how this experiment didn’t go past getting a phone opportunity? Because his bullshit would have been sniffed out easily.

@Jerryjhlee6 ай бұрын
interesting thought - though I've read that bias works in the favor of white males
@XoADREADNOUGHT6 ай бұрын
@@Jerryjhlee As someone who has hired for several companies, I assure you that is not the case. (I'm not HR or a hiring manager, but just a subject matter expert/senior that gets thrown into the hiring process pretty often). Many companies explicitly state that there are racial quotas. I've unfortunately been told that white males and Asian males should be de-prioritized. At least that's true for the tech industry. I can't claim that it is for non-tech industries. Decades ago, you'd absolutely be correct though. Also, the only time a "diverse" sounding name may trigger bias against a candidate is when the person has... for lack of a better word... a ghetto name. Like - "Diabolique Jackson". That bias is on an individual recruiter level though.

Whats nuts is the first pass would have been done by a machine. Like at my previous employer you upload, a program scans it, and it deems what's good and forwards that to me, HR and my boss. My boss or HR could prioritize the recommendations if they wanted, but basically i then picked who's resume i wanted to see, and i go from there. I am shocked 1 the "system" didnt pick it up. But i guess that means it picked out keywords and the stuff in between the key words it doesnt care about. Bu then that in theory an HR person, recruiter, manager, supervisor, etc., looked these over so cassually as not to see this stuff. Unless whats happening is its getting a key word summary from a program, going "this hit 95% of the key words we're looking for" and said yeah this checks bixes bring them in for an interview. This is wild to me. I read all the resumes, like read read. If you missed that period i noticed, but i didn't pin your future on it.
