I APPLY TOUGH OX UNDERBODY COATING | BETTER THAN FACTORY?!

Welcome back all,
In this video I finally finish the underside of my Mk2 Escort project! With the whole underside in epoxy primer I went around all of the joins and sealed them up with white tiger seal. This should prevent any corrosion and water from getting in the seams. Once this was all complete I got to work mixing up the Pro XL Tough OX underseal and then shaking for 2 minutes. I applied the coating to the front wheel arches and the underside of my Mk2 Escort & went through 4/5 cans of the coating.
The results really do speak for themselves, I could not be happier with the finish and I am glad to finally have this job ticked off the list! I'm really looking forward to building up the Escort and get it out on the road for summer 2024.

Small tip for you mate, you'll make much quicker work out of the seam sealing by wiping it with a cloth thats damp with paint thinners, it'll make it much smoother you'll fill in the seams much easier.

@@Mk2Mitch no worries bud, also means you can get a much cleaner finish if you're going for smoothness instead of factory finish!

We used to empty the contents into a bucket, mix with thinners to thin it out. Then pour it back into the tins. This gets you more coverage and looks less rough but still give you the same protection. Only use it straight out the tin in rough areas and joints.

Only just discovered your channel. You remind me of how I was around 15 years ago. Make sure you don’t do what I did take in to many projects and not completely finish them. That’s the trap I feel into. I now have around 8 cars all in different stages of restoration, with no time to finish them. I’m also a Ford fan myself. I used to use jotun epoxy mastic under some of mine. It’s used for industrial applications and in ships. The stuff is so strong and dries hard but with a slight flex to it . Keep up the good work.

Just be careful where you put seam sealer. Sometimes it can prevent a seam drying out (trap water and moisture). Capillary action draws water into seams and its important that they dry quickly and are not sealed. Great video, thanks for sharing.

The fact I stripped it back to bare metal then rust treated it with a converter. The multiple coats of epoxy primer & the Tough OX coating 👍🏻

That's nothing compared to 2k roller on epoxy primer. It goes on like stonechip and will last forever. It also seals in any particles of rust so won't keep rusting away. This stuff is used on sea boats.

Sounds like great stuff, I did use 2k epoxy primer but I sprayed it on. Happy that it's given the escorts underside enough protection for now 👍🏻
