I TACKLE THE UNDERSIDE OF MY MK2 ESCORT RESTORATION!

Welcome back all,
It has been 4 months since I uploaded a Mk2 Escort video and I've been working hard behind the scenes, to remove all of the underseal from the Old Ford! This has been a challenging, dirty & time consuming task but I'm glad to say, that I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have been rust treating the bare metal, then spraying the sections in 1k epoxy primer to give the metal the best chance of fighting off the rust and corrosion.
In this video I also remove some seam sealer that started cracking & replaced it with tiger seal, which has been recommend by lots of people! In the next Mk2 Escort video I hope to get the whole underside in primer & fully seam sealed, so I can then apply my textured body colour coating!

Another great video Best to get a small paint brush and cut the bristles down short and spread the sealer makes a good job and a lot easier

nice work Mitch, get yourself a car body roller/rotisserie. will make your life a whole lot easier Bud or you can borrow mine for a few months if it will help, also boil the kettle, pour it into a container, and pop your tube of sealer into it for a few minutes , same for your spray cans ... works wonders!!

I had exactly the same problem with seam sealer on my mk2 transit van rebuild. It kept cracking & I tried 3 different makes. In the end I used tiger seal & it was brilliant.

Fantastic work as always, you should mask both sides of the seams then smear in some sealer and remove the tape after, it gives it nice, crisp lines especially after paint

This is the right way to do Mitch super job mate . That cars in great condition to . I always use a full face mask using those wire wheels as I’m always getting bits of metal stuck in my head lol but you’re right they work very well. Nice job fella doing it right is the right way it’ll last you a very long time 👌I stuck a spoiler on my jag XF with tiger seal it worked really well 👍

i feel your pain, did my 80 fester + 82 xr3, but i was young + keen in the eighties... i forced myself to do a quick steamclean, kurust + stonechip under my 17diesel focus estate this summer, hopefully this will be my retirement car, so i need at least 10yrs out of it... so how many of those wire worms did you pull out of your arms each night... dam good tools, but bloody painful... keep it up young man PS did you remember a reinforcing plate for your servo

Yeah not the nicest job but one that needs to be done! I found lots of those wire pieces in places I didn’t even think they’d get 🤣 I will be adding a reinforcement plate for the servo 👍🏻

Great progress, just wondering if you were planning on schutzing the underside before paint ? Something like gravitex or similar-ideally a tintable version where you could add the beige paint to it and spray in one go with the compressor ? Good to see you getting used to the spinning wheel of death grinder attachment, I find it useful to have 2 or 3 grinders on the go at once (as they rarely last long and forever dying on you without notice) saves so much hassle faffing about changing the discs etc. Keep up the good work 👌

The wire wheels are called twisted squeal or twisted knot wheels. I usually pick these up from screwfix or tool station 👍🏻
