She assimilated into American culture and didn't associate with other ethnic Koreans because 99% she doesn't have a Korean husband. Make that 99.99%. Koreans are a very homogenous culture and being in a mixed race family would have ostracized her. She thus said 'f that' and never ate Korean food again.

I think it's a generational thing. My mom came to the US in '73. She makes Korean food, but she lost her language and chose to raise me to be as American as possible. Between American culture at the time and that generation, I think they just didn't see a practical reason to hold onto their culture.

50 yrs ago Korean ingredients were very hard to come by in the States, esp if you live in the smaller town and cities. It was prob easier and cheaper just to cook and eat local food. After the Korean War and during the military dictatorships, food in Korea was a lot simpler and were not the same as today, where there’s been an intermixing of different regional Korean and foreign flavours and ingredients as well as modern food processing techniques.

It's a bit sad, and could point to her losing touch with her heritage because of racism within the K-town communities, that she either felt ostracized by them or left on her own accord so her son wouldn't grow up surrounded by those attitudes.

My guess of her life story - She met a young, black American G.I. stationed in Korea and got pregnant. She got ostracized by the Korean community and moved to the US where she started a new life. She did not want to be reminded of her pain back home so she never mingingled with the Korean diaspora in Houston and never ate Korean food again. Sadly, due to the lack of mentioning of her husband, she probably got divorced. This makes her have the 'hood attitude.'

It displays the absolute beauty of every culture and cultural blends across the board with no pretentiousness

She's so popping 😍💕 It really do be the plain or janky looking spots that are always the best! They're popping out QUALITY designs. Their cakes in thjs video were beautiful. I like how small the staff is- a cozy family. And as a current Korean language learner, hearing Jonathon saying them Korean words with his accent was sooooo satisfying 😂 I sometimes imagine how we as Black people would pronounce them, but hearing it out loud and outside of my own voice was better than I was ready for 😂😂

Okay but the banana pudding that they have is so fucking fire and then there's the seven up cake that will make you want to cry about all your life sins even if you're not religious. Just because it's so pure when you eat it🎉🎉 she's the epitome of. We are literally just humans and we do not exist within the confines of labelist sensibilities of "culture" when we're just trying to live and take care of our bloodlines😅 and I love that human evolution before our eyes❤

She reminds me of Auntie Fee. Not only because of her unapologetic, genuine+ vulgar with love way of speaking which creates a casual and humorous environment in the kitchen. And makes good vlogging content. Not to mention she also has an son that aggravates her from the bottom of his heart. RIP.
@SourStrawberrys

She is nothing like Auntie Fee. Auntie Fee had no filter. Seemed like she would just say stuff to get a rise out of people or just for attention. Ms Yung is not like that. She only gets upset when here son annoys her. Auntie Fee was at a 10 all the time while Ms. Yung has her calm moments
@Luniel11
@Luniel11 Жыл бұрын
@@SourStrawberrys Did I say they were the same?. No I said she reminds me of her. 1. The both use vulgar language, and act "Hood". 2. They both make vlogs in the kitchen 3. They are Internet based not TV 4. They both have a son who is the one filming the content. 5. The son is the instigator to get a reaction. Because of these reasons I said she reminds me of Auntie fee I didn't say she was an exact replica of her. Everybody has their own unique flavor. But she reminds me of her not other older female kitchen personality such as Martha Stewart, Ina Garten, Julia childs, or Paula Deen.
