Being from an Vietnamese immigrant family, these stories really put life into perspective and I'm pretty grateful to have grown up hearing many of them. The little problems we have today are nothing compared to the problems our parents have faced in the past trying to escape war torn countries.. I am in the process of writing my dissertation. I am 26 and even though I wasn't born into a war I was born into poverty. I grew up in an orphanage. As soon as I turned 18 I ran away from my country and moved to the UK. I only had about 100gbp (not sure about dollars, but around the same). I lived in the cheapest hostels. I worked the worst jobs. I learned English from the cratch. I managed to go to college and I am now graduating with my doctorate in Psychology. Your mom just inspired me.
