I like the "worst fanbase" question because for the others, its understandable in a way; One Piece fans just want you to watch 1000 episodes, DBZ fans think Goku is the strongest character in fiction, AOT fans think its the best piece of fiction ever made and Jojo fans just thinks everything is a reference to them. Meanwhile MHA fans are actively changing how the characters act with their own headcanon that they claim are canon (misinformation), ships characters with each other and calls them canon but gets angry when a ship they don't like gets mentioned (hypocritical), and straight up sends death threats to the author because they hate a character (mentally unstable)

I’m actually surprised by how balanced the “I’m smarter than average” was! I thought something like 80% would think they’re above average given Dunning Kruger etc. But a solid less than half do, then another less than half feel average, and 10% either feel average or below average. This means that people have a lot of self awareness in this channel. It’s only slightly skewed towards above average, so maybe 10-20% who said above average were only slightly above average and thus they’re slightly overinflated, but it could also be explained by the audience in general being skewed in the more intelligent side. Especially since so many people have bachelors degrees or are in training. Interesting statistic.

I dont really talk to other anime fans online, so always find the "which fanbase is the worst" topic weird. My theory is, the most toxic fan base, whether it be anime or anything else, is whatever show/series that is currently new and popular. In anime that tends to be whatever the hottest shonen show is right now. Popular shows that have been around a while tend to be slightly less toxic, so I suspect the My Hero fandom wont be as bad in a year or two...

For ppl who don’t know, BnHA fans literally tormented and harassed the Viz English translator Caleb Cook permanently off of social media, despite the fact that the nuances people got angry about were corporate-level changes to his suggested translations. (If you’re drama-hunting he left his twitter public as a gift to the nice Dr. STONE fans, but yeah. It was super nasty to watch.)
@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley10 ай бұрын
Aww, that's some garbage level of "fans" right there. While I don't really love My Hero Academia, it holds a soft spot in my heart. A few years ago when my car broke down, my mom was taking me to and from work for a frw months. One day, I get in the car and after the initial greetings, she informs, "So, I started watching My Hero Academia." I was pretty damn shocked as my mom dabbles a VERY tiny amount with anime but 99.9% of what she watches are nature shows. She'd gotten up to season 4! And...that's about where both of us tapped out, lol. I couldn't get past yet another damn shonen tournament arc. But because I knew she roughly liked the show, I got her this Hello Kitty x MHA sweat shirt and some matching sweatpants for Christmas last year. I also got her an MHA scarf and hat set that has the UA logo on the beanie and the scarf says "Go Beyond, Plus Ultra!" But if wrapped around you, you can't read it, and the UA logo is vaugue enough to look like any generic American college logo, so only those in the know would be able to tell what it's referencing, and that's what I wanted. She appreciated this aspect of it as well (though she wears the sweat suit loud and proud 😂. I've seen her in it several times already this fall, which makes me feel good that I got her something she really likes, or at least is very comfy to wear). So, yeah...I don't really associate with other fans since I don't use social media beyond KZbin and I take care to only subscribe to KZbinrs who don't have toxic fanbases (if at all possible). So, I never knew any of what you said happened. I even watch dubbed anime and just don't really care about those nitty gritty differences between the two languages (English and Japanese) because our cultures are so vastly different, there's no way to really sound natural AND still sound Japanese when speaking in English (AND make it fit the lip-flaps!). It just isn't possible. Something is going to get lost in translation, and that's fine, so long as the essence of the message is there. Sounds like these "fans" are just bullies who need to get a life. Imagine being so pathetic that you bully someone over the translations in an anime. You can be upset or disagree with something without hunting someone down online and harrassing them. If they're going to be so anal about it, they should just become part of the subtitle purists (the ones who feel there should never, ever be dubs of anything, which is a sentiment I cannot disagree more with, but won't get into here). We're more than happy to enjoy our dubs without them.
@Fife_M10 ай бұрын
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley You can imagine it like Alex Hirsh’s battle of attrition with the Disney censorship department over Gravity Falls, except there’s no battle and definitely no attrition because Caleb doesn’t get a say at all. Though I should add: due to the nature of dubbing difficulty, I rarely see people get mad about the translations, mostly just about the voice acting/performances. Caleb is the official JAP-to-ENG manga translator for My Hero Academia (among others), he doesn’t work on the show afaik. Ngl manga translations easily can have a worse fan response than dub scripts, because people assume that you can write as much as you need for a translation, since it is just text and changeable font sizes, but that is not how it works because of the levels of corporate review it goes through (plus those fans then go comparing it to fan translations which happen in a not-comparable environment). BnHA is a fine story with a passionate-albeit obviously worn out-mangaka, and the fan artists/authors (of all fandoms) tend to be fine when they stay in their lanes :) Also, that’s very cute, ^-^ connecting with moms can really be one of the best things ever!!
@anantamc9 ай бұрын
He was actually unprofessional as well, especially to japanese speakers. Most people didn't even attack him, he just took it as a personal attack when there was a different interpretation and/or if people were not agreeing with his translations. He bullied a japanese person off the platform as well, so don't just speak of one side.
