Do your best to find Battle Master for PS1. It is a game that *transcends* good or bad and becomes "did the people who created this game come from our planet?" One of the most incomprehensible games I've ever seen in my life, to the point that actually navigating the menus to the point you're getting into a fight is a challenge.

The best fighting game of all time for me has to be Street Fighter Alpha 2…. it’s PURE GOLD.⭐️ The worst fighting game of all time for me is Fight For Life on the Atari Jaguar…. it’s ET on the Atari 2600 level bad. For me the best is definitely Street Fighter 2 Turbo Hyper Fighting. As for the worst... Dragon Ball GT Final Bout. As much as I love it, I hate it because of how janky it is. And that jankiness is what ruined the game for me altogether.

I recommend the Kim Justice documentary on that game for anyone curious. Not only is it one of the worst fighting games ever, it's one of the worst games ever period, and it also killed British video game journalism!

@@nujevad28 Fair point. Plus, without the context of its hype, most would be likely to pick it up for 5 seconds, say, "Yup, that's broken garbage," and never think of it again. Still, it's worth experiencing, if only as a piece of cultural fascination within in the fighting game space. I think if anyone gets the opportunity, they should read the pre-release articles, watch the ads, then play the game.

Honestly, everyone had legit reasons to dislike their least favorite. It wasn't like the community tier list videos where people were just like "MK is bottom tier because it's STINKY". When they answered with a game that is even a little beloved, even if you didn't agree, most people had reasonable responses. "Why don't you like MK?" - Can't handle gore. "Why don't you like SFV?" - Don't like the V trigger mechanic. "Why don't you like SF4?" - Don't like how much of the game revolves around Option Selects.

KOF '98 is definitely up there for me. Fight Fever for Neo Geo is also high on the WORST list...

SNK's biggest problem was the console ports were really bad compared to snes & genesis SF2 ports. Genesis Fatal Fury was OK, but FF itself was not as good as SF. I didn't really love any SNK fighters until SamSho, and SS2 is one of my all time favorites of all fighting games. SNK didn't hit their stride until KOF, and again the ports were inferior to SF Alpha etc. Throughout the entire arcade fighting game era I only knew one person with an actual Neo Geo, and I only knew two people with snes/genesis ports of Sam Sho and FF. But literally everyone I knew with a snes had SF2. So throughout the arcade era very few people got lengthy exposure to SNK games unless they went to the arcade, whereas EVERYONE was playing a ton of a very good home version of SF. And most who did try an SNK console port had a fairly poor experience.

Considering *all* the FGs I've played: The Best: Capcom vs SNK 2. This is the game that got me really hooked into fighting games. I like the look of the SNK characters, but I struggle with some of the mechanics in the King of FIghters games. I guess I'm so used to Capcom's ecosystem of fighting games. So to hear that Terry and Mai is coming to SF6, I was blown away and left speechless for the moment. The Worst: Dissidia NT. After spending 300-ish hours with Dissidia 012 on the PSP (which I would consider my 2nd Best), I was expecting something revolutionary. Instead, it felt very weird for all the wrong reasons. Despite that, I want to see another Dissidia fighting game, but maybe as a 2D (or 3D) traditional versus fighter instead of some janky 3v3 Arena Fighter.

Emotional best: Street Fighter 2. Grew up on it. Wrote stories about the characters. First serious console game every played, took part in tournaments as a teenager. Everyone knew it. Actual best: KI2013, the Fury Road of fighting games. Too insane to be for everyone but insane enough that nothing else will ever be like it. Held watch parties for tournaments. Emotional worst: Street Fighter 3. After years of buildup it came out and I was embarrassed to ask casual friends to play. Actual worst: I've never turned anything off faster than Clayfighter 63 1/3.

I think another in UMVC3's favour is that it's very accessible it's core control scheme is very simple and most people could probably do a lot of characters BnBs if you gave them an hour, but it's skill ceiling is still really high, even at low level marvel lets you do random stuff and have it work

There were some very interesting answers in this. The best I would say is Marvel 2 because of it's impact seeing the long lines at all the arcades of people waiting for their turns for those first few years was crazy I never really saw another fighting game have that much of an impact since then. Sega Genesis had some fighting games that were poo the worst definitely has to come out from there. My personal favorite will always be Capcom vs SNK 1. Best presentation, best music , best character select screen and menus. Best stages imo.

Best: Street Fighter 6. You can chalk it up to recency bias, but I stand by it. It does an incredible job at onboarding new players to fighting games and is just a solid game at its core. Worst: World Heroes Perfect. This one is entirely personal. I don't think it's a bad game, but it always gets under my skin when people say it's the best in the series. Imagine if the popular consensus on the best Street Fighter game was Marvel vs Capcom 2. That's exactly how I feel about Perfect.

Funny that a lot of people were citing street fighter 4 as their favorite (which was pretty sweet to see, it's definitely up there for me :]), then Rynge cited it for the worst option near the end Favorite fighter for me is guilty gear plus r tho. Was what got me into the genre, really fun and varies mechanics, every character has their crazy good stuff and charm to them, and honestly stuff like the story mode and such are really fun too Worst is street fighter 1.
