In Brazil, there is a similar plant called Jambú, people use it in some local dishes, but it can be used in liquors too, usually cachaça (distilled drink from sugar cane). So one time i drank a shot of Jambú cachaça, I thought that i was going to choke, the air instantly vanished from my lungs, and i didn't feel my tongue anymore.
