may I ask does tourette is like when you think of some sound you just said it? If no then thank god I dont have one.
@skunko18712 жыл бұрын
@@dioramsay1337 It can be almost anything, not just sounds or words. My friend used to make a breathy hum sound, then groan and shout "yes". My sister makes this awful shrugging motion that even looks painful. A while back I had an issue where my right eye would clamp shut so hard that when my eye opened again I could see sparkles and my eye had to refocus, not sure exactly what was happening with my eye there. But I eventually got an eyepatch to keep my right eye closed most of the time, which seemed to help reduce the frequency and intensity of the "winks". It still happens, it was just waayyyy worse back then because it was an extremely stressful time. It all sucks. It's disruptive, it annoys people even if they understand, it can be painful, it sucks. You don't think about a tic before it happens. It's like walking around a corner and walking into someone, it's a shock for half a second and then you're fine, just a bit annoyed. I suppose there is a bit more "warning" involved, as in, you can feel the tick building. Maybe it's more like seeing a car about to give you a fender bender from behind, you see the car coming just as it's getting in too close and you only have time to process and say "Fu-" before it hits.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing happens so much across so many ailments. As someone who was diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teen, in the past I've had to deal with what I can only presume were kids online talking about how "amazing it is to have schizophrenia because you always have people to talk to!" and comments like that. People speak without thought and often act in the same fashion. I will be honest though, I know next to nothing about tourettes, but can only presume that this kind of severity would be so grotesquely caricature that it would be more at home on something like Monty Python as opposed to it being even remotely genuine.

So, there is something I'm going to mention about this. You caaaaan choose what tics you have, but you have to spend a LOT of time trying to control them. And this requires knowing what your body feels like when you're about to have one. When I found a doctor in Wisconsin who specialized in Tourettes, it took months in order for me to control ONE tic. Let alone, all of them. Including the use of a brain activity machine to control how active my brain was while doing nothing. It took a long time for me to be able to get to where I am now with my Tourettes, and I had a specialist helping me. There's no way in hell this person was able to do what took me damn near a year, if not longer, to do with the specialist helping me, all on their own in such a short period of time.

@@mypeyboritetiramisu11 yeah except you clearly misunderstand what is being referred to... Context clearly implies that the ticks can be funny, not this person faking it for clout. You clearly didn't get that based on your responses. First of all I do have someone who has that and they do laugh about it. Secondly they weren't implying faking it was funny, they were implying that some ticks can be perceived as humorous, I don't know why you think they meant the person faking the disorder. The initial comment clearly uses "it's" (referring to tourrettes) and not "theirs" ( which would refer to the tik tok person faking) Again not everything is an attack on people and don't respond or rush to conclusions until you are sure you know what you are talking about or the context in which something was said. Have a nice day and hopefully now you understand and maybe learned something. Also I'd suggest you stop implying people from tourrettes are "suffering".

this is not a defense of the girl in the video - but I appreciate your approach, if a person is faking a mental disorder, there's obviously something going on there. I also come from a place where I had tics as a kid (quite small, non-verbal ones) and was accused of faking them all the time. Now I'm adult, I still have them and even now someone I worked with, when she noticed them, rolled her eyes at me and asked me why I was 'acting' like I had tourettes (something I'd never claimed to have by the way, she had just noticed the tics). Most people don't accuse me of faking now I'm grown up, but it still happens occasionally - because the tics I have are so low-key comparatively. Which is why it's so irritating when someone really is discovered to be faking
