My favorite is when El Estepario makes a video and shows off someone else, then goes “I can’t do that”:) There’s always someone that shows up with something crazier. Can’t stop that. What EMC and El has in common is that they are entertaining. That’s the true magic imho.

Everyone forgets Jonathan “Sugarfoot” Moffett, Michael Jackson’s drummer for 30 years. He had to take the drum machine beats that they layered onto the songs in the studio and replicate them live on stage for Jackson’s concerts. His nickname is “sugarfoot” for gods sakes. Michael Jackson is quoted as saying “sometimes my guitarist makes a mistake. Sometimes my bass player makes a mistake. Sometimes I make a mistake. Sugarfoot never makes a mistake”.

Great job! Quite the boss battle. I have very mixed feelings about Estepario and folks calling him a goat. I also know the internet hates on me when I criticize him in any way, even while I'm giving him massive props, so I'll just say he's really talented. More than happy to expand on all that if anyone wants to shoot the sh*t about it. Great job again Dave, for nailing his exercises, esp since drumset isn't your main gig.
@mikuspalmis7 ай бұрын
I know what you mean. He's a likeable guy, and I don't even think he would accept such a title (although he could be considered one of the best). But it is pretty wild to call him the "greatest of all time" which is only understandable if it's coming from someone who doesn't drum or hasn't been for very long, or if they have then their knowledge is limited. He put the work in and it shows in his unusually outstanding skills and I think even he says that anyone who puts in the work can do something similar.
@MrRezRising7 ай бұрын
@@mikuspalmis But would you want to? I mean, who could you play with that can keep up? I drum, and I'm in awe of what he has accomplished. He truly is a serious technician. My issues are, not a single real GOAT drummer - from Buddy to Thomas Lange - ever made it as a solo act. They played for years - on stage - live without a net, not in a room with a camera and a rewind button. Drummers support, and on occasion take center stage musically, but YT has created a sub genre: The Solo Technician. Again, I LOVE THIS GUY'S PLAYING! Very exciting and fun. I have spent 40 years with the philosophy that crazy fast isn't the goal. It's interesting in an academic exercise way, but no drummer other than metal was ever expected to play at 300 bpm. I want to see Estepario play with other musicians. Drummers are musicians, and by themselves, it ain't gonna fill an album. I mean, even he says it takes him 50+ tries to get a video right. The real GOATS didn't have that option, so I guess that's why it irks me. Anyway, that's about it.

If you used the Yamaha ead10, which is his crutch, you'd sound much closer. All the craziest looking stuff estelario does, only sounds like it does due to the ead10, and compression and trickery. When he does that stuff on a kit that's micd normally, it doesn't sound like that at all. And I bring this up over m over n over again, and still nobody sees it or sees it as a thing
