@Alana-mn1oo6 жыл бұрын
Sarah Johnston well if you’re going to say honey isn’t added sugar than maple syrup isn’t either. but they are really since they’re sweeteners
@Kumahachi86 жыл бұрын
@@Alana-mn1oo Not really. She wouldn't let her children eat refined, added sugar. Honey contains a naturally occurring sugar, along with a variety of other things that make it a superfood. If she can top food with fruit, then honey is also allowed. It doesn't fall into the category of "unhealthy," nor is it refined sugar with empty calories. There is a difference between sweeteners and natural sweeteners.
@Alana-mn1oo6 жыл бұрын
Sarah Johnston so then why couldn’t she put maple syrup then?
@Kumahachi86 жыл бұрын
@@Alana-mn1oo Maple syrup often includes added sugar. It depends on whether or not you're buying pure or impure maple syrup. In a lot of cases, the colour of maple syrup is achieved through the addition of caramel, and pure maple syrup can be quite a bit more expensive.

Why does it have sugar?
@ShellRenee6 жыл бұрын
I know how we raised our daughter will not be for everyone. I do not judge. We're not "granola", "hippie" parents either. Our daughter is 10 now. We saw her pediatrician a week before she was born and he gave us some advice that we took to heart and implemented from day 1. His advice was...1) have a set bed time every night 2) she sleeps in her own bed 3) no added sugar 4) feed her what we eat at mealtime as soon as she starts eating solids. I have to say, for us...it was a godsend. Here are the results...she is in bed every night at 9 pm (in her own bed). The only time she slept with us was when she was teething or sick as a small child. She slept through the night from 2 months old. In fact, she didn't sleep well unless she was in her own bed. Her and I will have Mommy/daughter sleep overs every now and then for fun and it makes them so much more special. She has the most extensive palette of any child I've ever met. She's been eating/picking her own crabs since she was 4. Her favorite food is seafood of all kinds, fruits and vegetables. I can only think of 2 foods she absolutely dislikes, but she will try ANYTHING (more than me...lol). I don't think she had a piece of candy until 5 or 6. Other parents thought we were cruel, but she didn't know what she was "missing". We do have ice cream about once a week for a treat. I'm not sharing this because I think how we did things is how everyone should, but in case any new parents or moms to be are looking for tips...these really worked so fantastically for us. My husband and I often say how glad we are that we took his advice. It made all the difference for us and our daughter. It DOES take a village! Just to clarify...we didn't stick to the "no added sugar" to this extreme. We love bread. We eat pasta. We bake cookies and cakes on holidays and special occasions. My daughter ate cheerios like most children. We just didn't go out of our way to buy sweets. The big no no's for us were candy of any kind and fruit juices. We also tried to teach her what foods were healthy and what foods were not. Then we explained those "bad" foods were okay once in a while as a special treat.

I was raised the exact same way! Except I was allowed a small treat (a cookie or a piece of candy of something like that) each night. as a teenager it boggles me that other parents don’t do this! It’s so simple just set a bedtime and the child knows when to go. Family dinners are amazing for bonding, venting, and everyone eats the same things meaning the kids eat whatever the adults eat and therefore have a balanced meal (obvi if the adult is making healthy choices)

Thank you for this advice. I’m not married or have children of my own but I know that one day, I would love to have a family of my own. I’ll keep this advice to make the best future for them. I would like to get into the habit of eating better for my own health. Thank you! :)

kathrynvanwaart ‘Non processed’ sugar is no different than normal ‘processed’ sugars. Its just a myth in the ‘beauty’ and amateur health scene and pretty unscientific. And no, theres no real basis for a lower glycemic index either. (Look at the sources for supporting articles and from ‘youtube gurus’ people; there mostly arent any) Edit: Im not saying processed sugar is good. Its just that unprocessed sugars are just as bad.

Now, about 10 months later, I’ve been working out for the pas seven months, as well as trying to eat as healthy as possible, watching my sugar intake (especially by completely quitting soda) and doing intermittent fasting for the past 6 weeks or so, I feel amazing!!!!

The natural sugar comes with a certain amount of different other ingredients like minerals etc. which makes it different for the body. The combination of what you eat is very important too and there are several studies that show how different food combinations influence the body like your insulin-levels.

Hell, even cutting down on sugar does a lot - As a child I used to eat 4 bowls of coco pops at weekends, I was slightly obsessed with sugary cereals and sweets. However, I put on a fair amount of weight during my A Levels, so decided to exercise more and only eat sweet stuff at weekends. Now I'm nearly 25 and my sugar tolerance is waaaay lower - I feel a bit sick and anxious if I eat too much. It might also be an age thing? It still tastes good, but I feel awful if I have too much these days.
