Flying Fire Ant Queens Broke Into My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

A swarm of fire ants had a nuptial flight in my home. The Crimson Knights, my ravenous pet fire ant colony living on their open-concept, volcanic island ant farm, called Volcania, decided to spontaneously launch a nuptial flight, i.e. an annual ant breeding event. Usually captive ant colonies don't have nuptial flights indoors, but this fire ant colony unexpectedly did, and the escaped fire ant queens and males were everywhere. What was worse was that a pregnant queen ant may have gotten into my giant ecosystem vivarium, Pantdora, which if so, would be disasterous for my ecosystem project. But I had a wicked solution! Hope you enjoy this Season 2, Episode 12 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

And after all of this, all I can think off is: you just have got to love how nature keeps handing out curveballs, just to make certain we stay humble.

Never in my life did I think I would so hooked on a nature drama like this, Lmao! Frankly my biggest concern is that the weavers don’t actively hunt the fire ants. Mantises have a VERY long gestation period, anywhere from 6-18 months. They aren't laying eggs perse, but goop that will start forming when the weather is right. It's their method for dodging winter. Years where its warm too early can mess them up. The previous mantis he had that layed a sack that he thinks is a dud might not be a dud, it takes a while.

Hey dude! just an idea, but maybe, if it's possible, you could add some microphones inside the vivarium. The added sound-effect really put me out of the immersion, making the real spectacle of mother nature, sound and feel more like a cartoon. I understand that there needs to be added sound because otherwise the footage is silent, hence the idea of adding microphones inside, so we can also hear whats happening, not just see.
@theKashConnoisseur
@theKashConnoisseur 3 ай бұрын
I'd imagine that it's pretty quiet inside the vivarium. The only real noise makers are the crickets. The various insects moving about would be nearly silent, the caiman isn't really prone to vocalizing, the lizards don't seem to be very talkative, and there's no birds (yet).

I am so excited for the canopy! Weaver ants look so fascinating and i am excited to learn more about them. And ive been waiting to see baby preying mantis. Im so glad that you decided to do the canopy first before the cave or swamp. Im sure those others will be interesting too. But ive been looking forward to the Mantis babies and i think the canopy will give them a chance to survive adolescence, by hiding from the predators in the original vivarium.

There are liquid ant traps that could help you. If they are free in the home, I.e. potted plants, crack in the wall, etc, they will definitely be of use. Edit to add: just to be on the safe side of things, for the open air concepts. It might be worth it to get some bug netting and hang it up around the nests, when you notice it is getting closer to nuptials.

LOVE the addition of the Weaver Ants! I’m from California and didnt even know they existed until you introduced them to the channel! Question: If weaver ants were introduced to the wild in United States, would they become invasive and wreck havoc or would they become easy prey?

@@micfeelsick3517its simple really its gunna be better video because something is clearly happening right now that either hes trying to capture or something (like the nuptial flights of the fire ants) thats just ended and he's trying to compile all the footage into a video that viewers are going to find interesting just look at the story telling and detail he goes into in each of his videos just be patient and it'll drop anyway it normally drops on a sunday

I honestly wouldn't be upset if it turns out a fire ant queen made it into Pandora. It would be pretty interesting to watch the colony slowly take over the entire setup. It's not all lost at least the Channel will have the world's largest fire ant enclosure.

First, yes the design of the eyes for the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park were 1-1 modeled after crocodile eyes. Second, and on the same note, I would be very careful about that baby caiman. Its small now, but in a few months it will have already doubled in size, in a year it’ll be too big for Pantdora and will have already eaten the sunskinks and or died of starvation as none of the available prey can properly sustain it.

I get that you want to keep the "open" concept going for you fire ant vivariam but you need to make a plexiglass cover large enough to contain the fire ants in that vivarium to keep them from doing their flights ouside of their home. You only need to utilise the lid until after they are all done flying. Then you can remove the lid and save it for the next time they get ready to fly.
I Constructed a Tree Canopy Vivarium
