They're less durable, they make a weaker sound, they come out of tune easily, _and_ they're generally more expensive. The only people using gut strings on violins are people who are very particular about making a piece sound how it would've at the time it was written- this is called period performing.

Can confirm about slaver ants, I took a college course on social animal behaviors with a focus on insects, and yeah, slave driver ants are one of the few obligate social parasite ant species. The slavers raid other ant nests, steal a bunch of eggs and larvae, then bring them back to their colony to raise them as workers. The ant slaves will also have “uprisings” and rebel against their ant overlords, killing all the eggs and larvae and dooming them all to die. Insects are really fascinating animals! Also about the whole “fish aren’t real” thing, the term we call “fish” is not a unified group of animals. Like, what we call mammals and reptiles all are united in their groups because they all have specific characteristics they ALL share. “Fish” aren’t united in that same way, there are some animals that we call fish that aren’t actually in the same group as the others. It’s kind of like how we call eukaryotes that aren’t plants, animals, or fungi “protists”, but they’re not really their own unified group, just a mishmash of other stuff under a single name for convenience. Science is really cool 👍

Spiff is like an Ancient Greek Scholar but instead of recording down history and influential people of his time he records all FNAF games.
@popslyme42809 ай бұрын
Historians in 3024: Thanks to the combined efforts of ancient scholars, we are able to discern the meaning behind the mysterious "FNAF" literary piece. This FNAF is a piece of literature written across multiple decades, and what the story depicted is debated by even the journalists of its time. Many journalists of that time would react to the story in a form of content dubbed a "letsplay," in which the "letsplayer" would experience or play the game in a recording and then post their findings on this "Internet." One notable "letsplayer", titled online as AstralSpiff, was a leading source due to their four lengthy publishes where they played all of these primitive electricity-based games in sequential order. Thanks to this notable letsplayer's efforts to preserve this literary piece, we have learned much about these games, along with what a typical electricity-based game would function. Despite their contributions, we could not salvage any information from their real-time "chat box" that accompanied them, as they appear to have been devoted solely to one of their feline gods, whom they name the "Plink." This does, however, give us insight on their religious beliefs. It seems little has changed between their time and the much earlier times of the Pharaohs in Egypt, though this "Plink" god does not appear in any other religious texts. Perhaps a cult of some sort?

1:57 "Foreshadowing" is a literary device that writers utilize as a means to indicate or hint to viewers something that is to follow or appear later in a story. Foreshadowing, when done properly, is an excellent device in terms of creating suspense and dramatic tension for viewers. It can set up emotional expectations of character behaviors and/or plot outcomes.

19:03 Okay so the fish thing is true but it wasn’t explained very well, the term “fish” is paraphyletic (phyletic referring to phylogenies which are basically the family trees in evolution). Paraphyletic means that the group excludes some descendants but include others so if we go back far enough one of our ancestors would be considered an early fish, humans (and all other vertebrates) were “fish” at some point but “evolved out of” being fish, making fish a paraphyletic group because it excludes some descendants of animals that we would consider fish. This is not the same for birds because there are no non-bird descendants of birds (but birds are “technically” reptiles and fish because they are descendants of animals considered reptiles and fish). Paraphyletic groups can be useful in science, mostly by ecologists because they tend to fill a similar ecological niche (a certain role in the environment).

So it's very not unlikely for it to take as long as it did, math shows you that.
@achi51709 ай бұрын
yeah, I started doing math myself when I saw his reasoning for "a 10% chance for at least 3 shlashers in 30 hits"... and found out it is actually around 58.9% chance of getting at least 3... while getting at least 4 drops to about a 35.2% chance, still not 10% a 10% chance falls between getting at least 5 and at least 6 slashers in 30 attacks (so about 5.5, lets say.).

Here’s a little tip for ya insomniacs out there (including myself): even if you can’t get any sleep, do try to lie down with your eyes closed at a normal bedtime. This is called “quiet wakefulness”, and it has been shown to be at least somewhat restful, more so for your body rather than your mind. If you can’t sleep, at least do this to make your exhausted self able to survive the days a bit easier

yeye, i have a really unique sleep schedule (i basically sleep after school and then stay up the whole night) and whenever i feel myself getting tired (which is quite natural, since your body isnt really made to be able to stay up at night), i'll just lay down and close my eyes even if i dont sleep it helps a lot with recharging energy
@Aigis319 ай бұрын
I basically do this when I take "naps". I can't really take naps normally, so I just lie down and set timers for every 10 minutes so I don't fall asleep for 8 hours haha. It's been nice.

19:10 ok this was worded poorly but to explain what i think the dono was saying: what we call “fish” isn’t some biological structure that relates all fish together, it’s just a common term for things in the ocean. two fish can be less alike than a human and a mushroom. similar thing with trees. “tree” is just a shape plants can grow into (look up the structure of palm trees if you don’t believe me)

We did geocaching when i was a kid, i didnt even know theres an app now but at least in the midwest united states, it was common to have a stamp and book in them, and you had a stamp and book of your own, and the idea was to stamp the cache book with your stamp, and your book with the one in the cache. so it was like a collaborative "who's been here" thing which was pretty cool! we also made our own stamps out of erasers lol

49:25 I cannot believe any fan of One Piece thinks that the show would be incomprehensible at any point. If anything, picking up the show within the last 100-200 episodes is the easier way to watch the series, because the world-famous flashbacks would catch you up to speed way more easily than any 1500-episode marathon could.
@definitelynotaduck9 ай бұрын
Hard disagree, the current show is just a constant avalanche of characters and locations and dyamics that don't matter. Early OP was a far more enjoyable romp through islands and fights, compared to the current bloat of slow, drawn-out, multi hundred episode arcs that focus on meaningless nonsense. Did Wano have cool moments? Certainly. Was it 90% unimportant characters running around fighting other unimportant characters? Absolutely. Much like you can't understand why people think this way, I can't understand why you would think you way.

The eating of a Lemon just threw me back to last year, during my friend's birthday party. We were all at least decently drunk and he got dared to eat a whole lemon, peel and all. I was like "fuck it" and joined in. We both ate a whole lemon each for no damn reason. It wasn't actually that bad though, although the lemons weren't the freshest, so the peel wasn't that great. Peak birthday party tho, lol.
