Ok, most people seem to ignore this little fact, but the dungeon you start in in is theoretically connected to a cave via a secret passage, which leads to the coast. In Daggerfall, you're shipwrecked and ended up in said cave which also suffered a cave in, which leads you to the only way out left; the dungeon. One of the things I'd love to see World of Daggerfall do in DFU would be to make said cave, either as an exterior explorable asset or as a handcrafted dungeon one "pixel" away from Privateer's Hold, on the coast. The Shipwreck could be found, as well as the bodies of the other Blades aboard, and the cave could lead to a dead end which wold thematically be the other side of the Cave-in.

I have to say it. I have been thinking it the entire time I have been an Elder Scrolls fan, after they released Skyrim I noticed the MASSIVE DIP in story telling depth, and oversimplification of the game mechanics with every new title. Went from being a real time D&D adventure to.......generic hack and slash FPS with miniscule "RPG" elements. I'm not saying Skyrim is bad, but it's not good either. It just works. We play Skyrim for the Fus Ro Dah's and Wuld Nah Kest's. And to kill Thalmor. We play Oblivion for the memes. We play Morrowind for the Elder Scrolls Lore. I think Daggerfall though just happens to be a lot more in depth in it's VISION. Shame it was released unfinished lol. Imagine if we could have had the entire map of Tamriel at our finger tips. With the way they handled things in DF, I could see it being possibly the BEST ES game if they'd been able to finish it, and stick with the ideas they had established. Buuuuuut retconitis afflicted them much like the Divine Corpus plagued Morrowind.

Hand-to-hand is so unique that not only it can damage ghosts and enemies immune to weapon tiers, but also Fighters Guild does not recognize it as a weapon. Having high h2h but not other weapon skills, FG will not let them join them because they wont allow people that "can't fight". Also Medicine not only increases hp regen when resting (and its better than you think as all quests have a time limit), it also shortens the time for character to recognize that you contracted a disease or get poisoned. All diseases in the game are lethal, if you don't treat them in time and fast travel anywhere you just drop dead on arrival. Poisons slowly chip your hp bar away until you drop dead as well.
@1thevm12 ай бұрын
Unfortunately Medical quickly becomes a chore to level up because it requires several in-game years for you to sleep through. It's one of the skills you always have to train with the trainers, or else it'll be stuck in low 10s for the rest of the game. On most of my characters with 100s of hours it was always underleveled.

@@BurningM From what I know the diseases work by draining character stats per day, if any of the stats reaches zero your char dies. Diseases have various magnitutes with the lowest being 1 and highest 30 with the Cholera and Plague. So if you got lucky and got any magnitude 1 of the stat you have 70-80 in, you can survive for very long time and not even notice it. This behavior has not changed in Unity and its always good to have cure disease potion or spell at hand, or immunity to disease advantage.

Hand-to-hand, not just in Daggerfall but also Morrowind and Oblivion is basically like eastern martial arts. It isn't just your fist that is hitting the ghost. It's your chi that hits them, and that is magical by it's nature. And that the fighters guild doesn't accept it also plays a bit into that. A big reason why "king fu monks", developed those martial arts is because they weren't allowed to carry weapons. So they made their body the weapon.

With older games there are typically two schools of thought: 1) the game is perfect, anything afterwards is a cut down, casualised imitation. 2) The game is ugly and clunky and lacks any kind of convenience. And in a way both are right and wrong. Yes, those games weren't as casual, but they also lacked lots of convenience. More recent games have added many great things that improve on "just playing" them. The player was expected to do much more themselves. Who here has drawn a dungeon map on graph paper before? Because the game came with no map. Morrowind at least came with a big paper map that you could put on your wall. And that map made navigating the world and following the directions of questgivers much easier.

Can you beat Morrowind as a Rogue Ordinator? *Must use Ordinator NPC class. *Can only wear Indoril and Her Hand's Armor, can only wield the Ebony Mace, Ebony Scimitar and Trueflame (since the Ebony Scimitar is an obvious imitation of Trueflame). *Must join the Temple and rise to the rank of Archcanon. *Must aggro as many Ordinators as possible by wearing their armor, but cannot fight back in self defence.

Apparently there's dialogue in Daggerfall that suggests if you fail to pay your loan back enforcers will be sent after you This never happens Imagine if Daggerfall banks could foreclose your player house, seize your horse or, if we're going full medieval, throw you in debtor's prison

@@oz_jones It can be sometimes depending on the situation; in this case, the joke would be a misdirection joke, as everyone would assume he meant "explicit" as in the way he actually did. The Angry Video Game Nerd was (and maybe still is?) good at making cursing funny due to just generally having creative wordplay; at times it could feel like oddly vulgar poetry.

There is also a pacifist option for Lord Woodborne, you can find his diary and give it to Nulfaga or the Dowager Queen. They smear his reputation across illiac bay and he's ultimately tried and executed "off camera". This also puts Lysandus' soul to rest

I've been playing through Daggerfall for the first time and I've got to say, every complaint in the first 7 minutes are 100% accurate. This game is rough and rough again, without mods. I don't know how people forced themselves through it, back in 1996. I'm almost at the end of the main quest and it's taken over 100 hours... I blame the aggressively boring dungeons.

The thing is that Alfiqs are just canon in general. Even if ESO would not be canon Alfiqs would still be canon, just not appearing in any canon Elder Scrolls because budget. In Morrowind (and Oblivion too) there is a book series "Dance in a fire" that mentions them.

IMO, ESO’s canonicity is similar to Brian Herbert’s Dune books; Strictly speaking, it’s the same continuity, but there’s also a clear disconnect.

Ive always compared the watering down of elderscrolls to the watering down of the Ultima series. I enjoy all of them and sinplifications arent bad inherently, but this type of game just doesnt attract a huge audience, and honestly with the recent bethesda blunders i really have little hope for TES6.

It was me, i was that young kid getting stuck in dungeons forever. I have a memory of the mummy quest specifically, and it just so happened i was not only being chased by a mummy (i don't think i realized why) but the dungeon itself *randomly* decided it would spawn normal mummies. So yeah. Any time i found a mummy i very carefully looked through the alchemical ingredients it dropped looking for mummy wrappings. Which i think might have actually been a thing.. I did eventually get the quest drop, it was getting down to the wire, but it took me a long time to escape afterwards! I'd employ the handy stick to one wall trick only to loop around back to where i was... Then try going down/up, or choosing this door, to no avail. Awesome game!

I think of Daggerfall's game design as wearing its D&D influence on it's sleeve. The mysterious letters breadcrumbing you along the Main Quest are hints from the DM. While you were off having merry adventures he wrote the next part of his epic story and he really wants you to experience it. The dungeons don't make any diegetic sense because they're Gygaxian. Masses of corridors filled with teleporters, pits, traps, secret doors etc. They exist to provide a challenge to overcome. You're not supposed to think too hard about why they're there or how their form reflects their function. Ted Peterson and Julian LeFay were both seriously into D&D and DM'd a number of campaigns. Early TES lore is cribbed from their DM experience, apparently. A bit part of Arena and Daggerfall's DNA is "I'd like to make a game that feels like D&D with the boys".
