In this challenge I decided to challenge myself more than I probably should. I set out on an expert world with one mission in mind; beating Terraria as a Mage with only magic weapons, with only one Mana star. That means I only have 20 mana to beat the moonlord. This was pretty difficult.

Some things I forgot to mention: this video was recorded before 1.4.4 came out, and the mana flower and any successors of that accessory were banned because it would've been cringe. Also I completely forgot that since 1.4 Terraria you can't obtain the waterbolt pre-skeletron, my bad! At the start of hardmode you could’ve kept the meteor helmet and just changed the plate and boots for a little extra damage, it even has more defense than the mage helmets

I personally love Journey mode for the exact reason you picked it. It really saves time when it comes to grinding, and when you have nearly 3000 hours on this game, you look for as many ways to save grinding as you can. It doesn't have to be an easy mode. You can simply choose to never take the difficulty slider below expert mode. It's all optional. Journey mode is also a dream for building because you have access to infinite building materials when you research them.

I used journey godmode to experience master mode's boss patterns for the first time. It's such a good mode for playing around and practicing bosses in various situations.

Journey mode is totally fine, the point of these runs isn't to grind, it's to see how you can manage to beat the game with restricted conditions. We know you can farm X material with only one mana star, let's skip the time consuming elements so you can focus on the hard part :D Also how aren't you more popular ? Been binging your videos since a few days (youtube recommended me Terraria videos randomly, haven't played in years) and you're pretty good at catching those algorithm beats, hope you'll get a big popularity boost soon

I agree with this, IF the grind is boring. However, one of the most fun parts of watching challenge runs like this is seeing the youtuber struggle to things that are normally trivial.

Most of the grinding is literally just "Kill X about Y times for Z" or "Stand in this spot and fish for 10 hours" or "Mine for 8 hours for 15 different small accessories that need to be combined in various combinations". Like are any of you guys actually grinding for the Cellphone anymore? After your first playthrough why bother?

@@JudojugsVtuber It would be very difficult to beat enemies that are otherwise easy, if only because you normally kill them fast. Another example: in Wand of Sparking's lava and shimmer filled worlds, reaching currently submerged chests or life crystals requires you to cautiously reroute the liquid enough, all the while making sure not to get touched. And if, when mining, you accidently don't route lava properly, or accidentally open a cave you didn't mean to, you could stand to lose hours of progress. The stakes are fairly high, and the process is facinating. Obviously, with something like 1 mana star, it's not gonna be nearly as interesting, but I'd still like to see the grind, because where enemies are involved, it isn't trivial anymore.

Hey! If you ever do another journey mode video, to speed things up when grinding souls of night or light you can craft a single soul of either type with a bottle to get a decorative item, which you can duplicate with only needing 1 of them, and you can get 9999 then throw it into the shimmer and boom, 9999 souls at the cost of 1 soul and a bottle. :)

FYI Duke Fishron's last phase can be ultra-cheesed by repeatedly dashing into him with the Shield of Cthulhu the moment he dashes, abusing its brief moment of invincibility. Same with Queen Bee btw. Other dashing bosses don't work so well because they either dash too slow (EoC and first phase of The Twins), too fast and repeated (Expert EoC mad dashes and second phase Spasmatism), or have an invincibility window themselves (EoL).

Meteorite armor reduces the mana cost of both the gray and orange zapinator to 0 (though it doesn't say the mana cost is any less) so meteorite armor would have been viable the whole playthrough

An OOA strat I recommend is the clinger staff(I think that's the name) it shoots a pillar of cursed flame with moderate knock back that lasts a while and perfectly covers and can guaranteed kill everything on one side including flying dragon things so you can focus on the opposite side.

Something I always wonder is why nobody seems to know that the crawltipedes during solar pillar fight only attack you if you are flying. Just stay on the ground, they won't even spawn at all.

I've known about the crawltipedes attacking flying targets since they were released in 1.3, I just tend to fly a bit to avoid the ground enemies because I get overwhelmed by them, and try to evade the crawtipede. I find I'm dead either way so I try to survive flying for a bit

One way I like to handle the OOA is to use the nimbus rod in front of each portal, it mows down some of the weaker enemies and just overall makes it easier. Great video, really enjoy watching Terraria challenges!

Great video. I'm surprised you didn't make use of the Magnet Sphere. It's only 14 mana for ~15 seconds of DPS. Kind of a late game version of the Nimbus Rod. I'm guessing it might have been an issue with the drop rate, since it's pretty low. Still, really well done. :)

Magnet Sphere would have been amazing, 14 mana and hits like 10 times. Rainbow gun wouldn't be a bad get but farming keys would suck. Also Duke had 90 hp left 26:41 you see 445 as the lowest hp number and subtract the 232 and 123.

FYI the wand of sparking does 14 damage, has fast speed, sets enemies on fire, pierces once, and costs 1 mana. It is a really good weapon and it can annihilate EoC

When setting the difficulty in journey mode, you can click on the rabbits to avoid using the slider. (This might be a 1.4.4 feature, I'm not sure)

You did the harder version of the challenge I did at the beginning of the year. I allowed items/armor that gave mana. When I finally beat the game I used all the mana stars and felt like an absolute God with my nearly endless mana and damage.

you could have made some sparky boots, they boost speed which is an underated game mechanic

Do you mean lightning boots? I could have but I’ve beaten the game so many times at this point I don’t always bother with small things like that, but yeah it would’ve helped

@@hellodarkness I recorded this before 1.4.4 came out so it wouldn’t have made a huge difference. But I did kind of forget that the Star in a bottle existed

If you want it a little easier, tmod has mods that make the researching easier
