My first LTS class was Sep 29, 2019. It was my 24th birthday. I was the only adult in a basic 1 class of 6 y/os 😅 215lbs, couldn’t last more than 15 mins on ice. I thought it was impossible for me. 2024, I’m over 50 lbs down, 29 years old, just finished an hour rink session today, plus an hour of off ice training. 5 years ago, I could barely walk up a flight of stairs without breathing heavy. It’s never too late to want more for yourself ❤

This video gave me so much hope. Thank you. I'm turning 24 next month and REALLY want to get into figure skating. I struggle with depression and anxiety and I went skating once a few months ago and even though all I did was skate around the rink a few feet away from the wall the entire time, it was probably the best/happiest day I've ever had.

I started at age 22, and two years later I’m competing in my first competition next week! It always seemed like something I could never possibly get into, I live in the south where it barely ever even gets below freezing and I was obviously way too old. But one day I just got it in my head that maybe I could and my husband encouraged me to go for it! I think it makes all the difference having that person there to cheer you on and tell you you can. So kudos to you for hopefully being that person to all of your viewers! You are so encouraging!

This year, a 40 year old figure skater by the name of Deanna Stellato-Dudek won the world pair championship with her partner. She’s also quoted as saying, “I'm already too old to be doing this, so I can be too old in six years, too [for the 2026 Olympics]. So what's the difference?” She is my absolute inspiration, and my wake up call that I’m not too old to compete at 28. So that’s the goal that I’m working towards now. By the way, watch her performance at the championships. It was amazing!

Girl your videos are so inspiring. I love that you show the mistakes and the progress you make over time. I ice skated once when I was a child and I always wanted to try again. I was really good at rollerblading but freaked out on ice skating until some dude decided to snatch my hat off my head and I had a super human moment and chased after him to get it back. Totally didn’t realize I was ice skating until I noticed I was no longer near the wall. 😅 I’m in my 30s and I’m trying to get back into doing all the things I enjoy. I love your video with the “I just need some space” song. That video was so relatable. You skate beautifully and you are right representation does matter. I’m so glad you decided to learn.

I just had my second learn to skate lesson. I bought Jackson Soft Skates because they were cheap and I don’t plan on going any further than the basic learn to skate classes. I’m doing it more so I can skate with my friends and not be the one too afraid to let go of the wall lol! Having an absolute blast learning to skate though!

Man, I cannot believe how helpful this video has actually been. I'm 23 and I feel like a lot of the "adult" figure skater videos were like, 15-18 year olds. You're absolutely right that representation matters. I started being interested in Ice skating many years ago (long story), but at the time I lived 30 minutes from the rink and that combined with the price and that I didn't have my own skates made me look for other options. Instead I dove into Rollerskating, and for about 4.5 years I skated on quads, starting with some awful Roller Derby brand skates from Academy, then purchased a $300 pair of Moxie Lollys. Not the most financially responsible decision but they have afforded me tons of wonderful memories and have certainly paid for themselves in that way. Then I actually found my ice skates at Goodwill. I actually was ON MY WAY to the rink when I stopped at Goodwill beforehand, and as I was about to walk out the door I saw this pair of figure skates in a box behind the counter. Older, and everytime I google them "vintage", but still good. I asked to try them on and they literally fit perfectly. I couldn't believe my luck. Then I continued both Ice and roller skating for the rest of college, sometimes even doing both in one day 😂. Then I studied abroad, then graduated, but from study abroad onward I got just absolutely 💥wrecked💥 by depression and anxiety. So about two, maybe three ish years, I didn't touch skating at ALL, roller or ice. Finally, this week I broke into what I'm calling "round 2" of working on my mental illness, but after working through the major panic attack I had this past week, I realized I needed something else to put my energy into and fill my time, plus I moved and now live only 8 minutes away from the rink!! So, yesterday I spent the day preparing my lil old skates, and today I went to the rink for the first time in literally years. I feel wonderful, and I really, really hope I can continue skating till the end of the year. Lessons are something I would like to attempt, but like you said, money, and also time. Either way my goal is to just be consistent. And the $4.50 Del Arbour figure skating dress I found at Goodwill was definitely a sign I should "get back into it". ❤ This video was so informative and really showed the more technical aspects of how getting into a skating program works, not just "here's a bunch of clips of me skating over 3 years". Those other videos aren't bad at all, this one just gave me the most information relative to me. 😊
@TheAGcollector1013 ай бұрын
And for anyone wondering, ice skates were $12 at Goodwill. I did purchase hard guards for them. Gonna finally make my own soft guards tomorrow but did purchase a $2 hand towel to get some terry cloth. I also am switching the laces from the originals to the brown ones from my Moxie Lollys. So overall, if anyone is wondering, equipment wise for only Ice skating, I've spent probably $30? Lots of using what I have, and only from an equipment perspective, ice skating is cheaper. Gas to get to the rink though plus the $7-10 admission fee depending on what rink I'm going to certainly add up.

Good job for becoming a figure skater despite not seeing anyone like you in the figure skating world!

I felt the same way about my body type, there’s not much curvy representation, so i felt insecure on the rink. Your videos inspire people who might not feel like they belong, I think they are also very special because so many people don’t want to post their process and only post the highlights, which makes access to this seem impossible and is very unrelatable for a beginner. Your page is also a triumphant display of discipline and commitment and love of something for the fun of it and i think thats beautiful (sorry im getting sappy) anyways random but my proshop ALSO ordered me the wrong sized skates and it was a crazy long ordeal what a coincidence! maybe they struggle fitting adults

Hi I know this comment is a bit late on this video! But can you please make a tutorial on how to fall safely from different angles! I feel the exact same way! I started figure skating at 24 (which is so funny since we started at the same time) but it’s been six months now and although I’ve progressed tremendously from where I started! Now I’m doing private lessons, and I feel like I’m not progressing because I won’t allow myself to fall! One of the main reasons I started to figure skating was to learn to fall so that I would take more risk not only physically, but emotionally as well! I’ve always been on the safe side, so I never put myself in harms way on purpose but I figure skating for this exact reason! But it just goes against every instinct I have, and so I will allow myself to fall, so I will allow myself to progress, and it’s literally killing me! I know I have to fall to get better, because sometimes you have to fall to find the right place on your blade and even all the big girl figure skaters like they will give their all a jump, knowing that they most likely won’t land it, but they do it over and over and over and over until they actually do it! And if I can’t do that with crossover, then I’ll never be able to get me better! 😂 long story short, please do a video where you fall and get back up safely!

So i started private lessons on the side and decided i will continue with private lessons twice a month after the group is done. Am concerned about losing that ice time because I have limited access to rinks in my area and i work full-time and i literally have no idea what rink is open in NYC after and before work for absolute beginners to practice.
