Having a gambling addiction can hurt more than the addict. My wife had a good friend that had a sister who had a gambling addiction so bad she lost her business, house, and family. I think we, who struggle with this, and GA need to push our elected representatives to recognize that compulsive gambling is an addiction as dangerous as being a drug addict and/or alcoholic. The resources for gambling addicts are limited. Insurance companies don't even recognize it as a disease, yet gambling affects the brain the same way it does drug addicts and alcoholics. We need to take a stand. We can hide the gambling addiction, unlike drug addicts and alcoholics, which somehow makes us not worthy of professional help.

Brains are highjacked by gambling. It’s the repeated dopamine hits….as much as hundreds per hour. Brain scans show this. Nobody wants to be a problem gambler. By the time someone realizes or can admit the problem, they are likely in deep. It’s a lifetime disease. But there IS recovery for those who truly are ready. For those who say, “just don’t go” - would be wonderful if it was that simplistic a solution. Ongoing support is needed. And the problem is getting worse & worse thx to Smartphone gambling and legalized sports betting. Our youngest legal gamblers are paying the price AND it’s a family disease. Betting with bookies in the old days could get dangerous. Because you could bet with money you don’t have. Only had to worry about it if you lost. Nowadays betting online you first have to have the money in an account before betting. So legalizing sports betting actually is a good thing. Helps people from getting in over their head.
@davewilson72552 жыл бұрын
That is far from the truth. An addict will always chase the bet and sometimes it's about being in the action and it's not about winning. It ultimately ends the same way whether using bookies or legal sports betting online: prison, insanity, death, loss of family, loss of self, loss of job, loss of family.

If you’re gambling $50, that $50 should be mentally treated as a write-off or a mere “amusement fee”. But if you happen to win say $136 in the process and would like more fun, then you should treat $100 of that amount as the “floor” and gamble with only $36. If you get to say $172, then $150 becomes the floor and $22 is expendable. That way you’d crystallise your progressive windfall and walk away with net win everytime, or at most you’ve limit your loss to only $50 (assuming you don’t do it too often). And for the love of god if that $50 is for rent then please pay rent because you have exactly $0.00 for gambling.

Picks number eleven in a five horse race. What we have here is people preaching on a subject they're not familiar with. Your message is noble, but the implementation is meh.

When you’re working with low or no budget you have to use what you have. Good catch though.

I had some great times in casinos. It was well worth it. I never was addicted though. Just some nickel and dime stuff, and a bunch of great memories. Now I just put 10 or 20 on a game once in while to make it interesting. That's it. DO AC!

It's not an "addiction". That is just an excuse people use to absolve themselves of any culpability for their poor choices. It's a choice brought on by a lack of discipline and unrealistic expectations.

Gambling addiction is every bit as much an addiction as drugs. It stimulates the same pleasure center of the brain as drugs like cocaine does. Addiction is defined by any action for which the person becomes dependent on it and the outcome leads to a negative physical, emotional, or financial outcome. Yes - it is the result of poor decisions, but an addiction nonetheless. It usually takes the person hitting rock bottom to change their behavior.

What is discerption? 😜 But anyway I didn’t write it and couldn’t afford Brad Pitt. But I did have an uncle that had a pretty bad gambling habit so I went with it.
