If he wants something to last 7-10 years he should not go for a super tightly packed high powered laptop. Same. I've been using my old Acer Desktop since I got it in 2011. Cloned the drive and OS onto an SSD(although I regret using the Samsung Magician app instead of cloning with Macrium Reflect. Regrets, though, amirite?) when I upgraded to my current i5-11500 build. Ran well for 10 years, until even _MapleStory_ started struggling with onboard graphics. And no, I didn't get a GPU back then because I mostly only used my desktop for KZbin and watching anime. I only got back into PC gaming a year or two back. That Acer OEM board and i3-2120 served me well for years.(planning to use that as a Vista machine. The old laptop that OS was on is, quite literally, on it's last legs)
