I BLEW UP THE PETERBILT! And now I'm driving a Kenworth W900

I made it just shy of 1'000'000 Miles (1.6 mil kms) on my Peterbilt 379 with a CAT C-15 before the head gasket went. Opened up the block to find a dropped liner.... Time for a full on engine rebuild!
A little explanation on the different mechanics and shops I mention in the video. So the first day I notice the coolant leak, I head back to the yard where I work, where there is a small shop and one mechanic. This is the mechanic that helped me out the first day, spotted the leak out of the head gasket, and put in the stop leak. The next day when it was leaking again, I took it to another shop with other mechanics that will actually do the engine tear down. I had to take it to another shop because the one at the yard is not really equipped to do internal engine work, and it's there to service the company equipment, not the owner operator's equipment. My boss was nice enough to rent me the Kenworth in the meantime though, so at least I'm still kind of making money to pay for the new engine!

Do you have a video on a walk around your truck. Inside and out what you haul and were. Just wondering. Is the peterbilt yours or drive for some one?

Hi there, I’m planning on doing a tour video of the truck sometime soon. I bought the truck back in September but still work for the same company I did before

A little late on the comment, but when rebuilding you should have used an aftermarket all steel piston instead of the Factory Aluminum 2 piece. I saw it kt3406e channel.
@callthemall
@callthemall 4 жыл бұрын
I know that it has the ipd 16:1 pistons in it now, which from my research are single piece steel pistons. Sounds like the c15 mxs came with the steel pistons stock as well. But I’m not 100% sure as i wasn’t the one rebuilding it

Already a full year on the rebuild! How has that turned out? I don't hear you speak of it much so I assume it's proven to have been very reliable. All points to the benefits of operating a used truck.

Hah... I mean it hasn’t left me stranded anywhere, but I’m really glad I have a 2 year warranty on it... oil leaks and warranty work everywhere.. going to have a video on it some point soon

Hey mate like your videos, How do you like the KW to the Pete? Which truck do you prefer? Pros/cons
@callthemall
@callthemall 3 жыл бұрын
My first truck was a 2015 kenworth t660 (basically a w9 interior) and I really liked the cupboard doors on everything when I moved to a Pete, vs the cluttered looking open shelves of a kw. I mean you can basically spec the exact same drivetrain in either truck so it’s down to interior comfort and looks, which I prefer the Pete for. Funkiest thing with this w9 though is the window opener buttons are above the front windshield, near the cb. Vs on the door like my Pete.

Yep the Pete's sure do look nice and id agree, I never knew about the window buttons on the kw, that is strange, I don't think id like that much. Well you have a nice looking truck for sure love the 379 and the older 359 cool trucks. Thanks for the reply👍

I’ve noticed you started off in the granny gear, wondering what kind of load you’ve got that would require such a low gear!
@callthemall
@callthemall 4 жыл бұрын
I believe at this point I had skids of bagged salt on, for a gross weight of 140’000lbs. Fully loaded b-trains, 9 axles in all. Just a wee bit too much to be pulling off from first gear ;)

callthemall what’s the motor, trans, gear ratio? I’m at 130lbs with doubles and nine axles, and the only time I need that gear is if I’m on a hill
