Simon Templeman (the voice of Kain) is an extraordinary voice actor and I maintain that it was by the strength of his performance that LoK became a series.
@chujiwu68Ай бұрын
Tony Jay and the other voice cast members were also excellent (as was the dialogue overall), and I think helped contribute to its success as well.
@SyurtpiuthaАй бұрын
Absolutely. Also, that voice is the one argument I have against the unsexiness of the vampires in this series. This game launched my habit of siding with characters voice by Simon Templeman regardless of how evil they are just because I wanna hear all his lines. Wait, I can *recruit* Teyrn Loghain? Move over Alistair, I have a new favorite meat shield. Go marry his daughter or whatever.

Yooo! Legacy of Kain is an amazing series that anyone and everyone should check out in some form or another! I appreciate the fact that Kain isn't the typical "dark hero vampire" in his series. He's his own being, above the labels of good or evil. No sexy seduction, no politics, just blood spray and an overriding purpose to his actions (which gets fleshed out as the series goes on.) I highly recommend anyone who loves fantasy, intrigue, or time travel stories to check it out, especially with the Soul Reaver games getting a remaster soon!

People often cite Metal Gear Solid as one of those watershed moments where games broke from being just entertainment and entered the artistic atmosphere, but for my money, Legacy of Kain will always be the first crack that struck the levy. Simon Templeman’s (and later Simon Bell’s as Raziel) performance as Kain is absolutely inspired and nothing short of Shakespearean in its eloquence, depth, and delivery.

I loved Soul Reaver back in the day. I love that it was the dark, gothic, ambient world, where one of the game mechanics was that you could suck the souls out of people, or sometimes demons. And your character would inhale deep and you'd see the black soul being devoured... but at the same time the core of the game was basically about moving blocks around and orienting them the right way to unlock doors to find new areas to move and orient blocks. Looking back, I don't really know if the awesome soul sucking mechanic was really necessary or even useful in the grand scheme of the game. I just remember having a blast moving the blocks around.

The game started the entire franchise, and Kain is still one of the best antagonist in video game history. Amy Henning is a incredible writer, and thanks to her I love the LoK games because of her storytelling. It has such amazing Shakespearean dialogues that the characters in this game talk to each other. Simon Templeman is such a underappreciated VA, and he deserves such praise. Alongside Michael Bell and Tony Jay, two GOATS of video game voice actors. Vae Victis!

In 97 I was 18 and my mom talked me into moving to Ohio with my grandparents. My parents were moving up there permanently later in the year. I stayed in Ohio for about 4 months before high tailing it back to Maryland. I was soooo bored that all I did was constantly play Blood Omen. I had gotten it for Christmas the year prior and never really got into it. Moving from the DC area to Morrow County Ohio, out in the middle of nowhere gave me time to finally get into this game and it is one of my favorite games of all time. I don’t have my PS1 anymore because the PS2 was backwards compatible but I’m glad I kept all my PS1 games.

my fav blood in videogames is the regen ability in Castlevania: SotN. you have to hit enemies as normal and then the blood they spill fills your heart. But the blood sprays in that game are small and basic, more of a hit effect than gore, and then they lightly brush Alucard's forearm and you flash green with a pleasant sound effect. It's so silly, half-assed and nonsensical but it feels so good to do, like everything in that game

Legacy of Kain is a fantastic series (and I think Amy Hennig is right on the money when she says the Soul Reaver-Soul Reaver 2-Defiance games are her masterpiece), which is criminally underrated and forgotten. I really hope the remaster will get more interest in the series, because a full-blown Blood Omen remake is one of my most wished-for games. Tho I do hope they don't go around making an unnecessary sequel or prequel (except tiny itsy-bitsy maybe if they get Amy Hennig back to write and direct) since ultimately I think Defiance has the kind of ending Legacy of Kain should have. I really look forward to seeing your reaction to Soul Reaver, since that's the best game in the series in just about every aspect and on the PS1 it was a technological marvel.

Soul Reaver is very good. It's impressive how big and open of a world they managed on the PS1 without having the kind of abysmal loading screens Blood Omen had. Soul Reaver 2 is okay, but you get the most out of it if you're invested in the whole Legacy of Kain story. I don't think it's as impressive from a purely gameplay perspective. I do remember liking it better than Blood Omen 2 though. Definiance is fine. To me it's a little too slick, and it chose to end on a cliffhanger that we will never see resolved.
