I was looking up the Bunnell police department and it turns out the only officer to die in the line of duty in their department was a man by the name of Sgt. Dominic Guida who died back in 2021 of a “cardiac event” during an emergency response training exercise with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. “Guida was the first Bunnell police officer to ever die in the line of duty since the city was incorporated in 1913.” And you my friends now own his old squad car. The two photos that I saw of him he was in or next to a crown vic with the number 1608 on the side and that’s the one with no light bar on it at 17:39 Thought that was interesting and figured I’d share it for anyone else that might find it interesting. Could be cool to do something with the car to pay homage to the fallen officer

As someone who manages a Police fleet, I can tell you exactly why those are no longer in service. As a general rule of thumb, 11 years and older + Unserviceability are the two main reasons these running/driving vehicles go out of service. Our in house service can ONLY use genuine parts, as soon as we can't get genuine parts for them we "total" them, for any reason we can find. 4 years ago I was told to "total" a 08 Crown vic with barely 45,000 miles just for a catalytic converter. I followed that car all the way to auction and bought it, got a set of high flow cats put on it, still daily it.

i deal with govement fleet vehicles and there comes a point as new fleet vehicles come in that they divest old ones for any reason. and it cost money to remove equiptment so some areas just auction with. but normally to prevent issues and to reuse equipment they strip them. i do like the K9 Unit vehicle.

You can operate them on private property, hence why he's keeping one in tact. It's not illegal to own or even buy them for yourself. Here in MN the only restriction is that you can't have forward facing reds and can't operate lights while moving unless authorized in the state statute. Every state is different and can't sue for some idiot being an idiot. That's like saying car manufacturers are responsible for duis/dwis and can be sued by applying that same logic legally.

I used to work for a Chevy dealership and we supplied all the Caprice cop cars. We installed all those plastic seats and deviders in the back. We would store the factory seats and when the cars would come back on trade-in when they upgraded the fleet we would put the factory seats back in and take out the plastic seats and dividers to put into the new cars the amount of drugs we found under those plastic seats was incredible pocket knives bags of Coke dime bags of weed it was insane.

One things for sure, if anyone from Bunnell county watches this, they will be hiring a NEW county mechanic lol! For real though, ALL the lights, radios, PA, cage and department identification should have been removed from those things! It was a rule where I’m from. It’s done to insure that people can’t just buy one and then go out and impersonate a police officer. That way you help prevent shady people pulling over women and “attacking” under the guise of a traffic stop.

Hey how about a Crown Vic game of cops and robbers at your next event. Robbers start at the back of the field and the cops have to chase them down (with full lights and sirens). First one to "race rub" the robbers wins but if the robber makes it say, 10 laps without being caught he wins. The kids would love it and you could get the local PD at the event to be the robbers running from a bunch of pro drivers. The fans would love the new concept the local PD's get to meet a bunch of cool folks, the PD get to push the "keep racing at the track" message and it can be taken on the road from event to event. Sounds like loud glorious fun to me!
