People forget Cleetus makes content. Getting engines from different people adds to that. Everything used to be LS. He’s branched out and has engines from different builders and manufacturers. It adds to the channel. That is his job. Let’s also consider how long it would take to get engines rebuilt if he only used 1 builder. At the rate he blows up engines he would be waiting forever. Gotta spread it around.

I would hope that dealing with ONE company, that they would have MULTIPLE backups sitting in the warehouse that are Cleetus' specifically. While Steve COULD do that, Cleetus isn't gonna drop $300k for 2 extra engines sitting in boxes at Steve's place IN CASE he breaks something. Texas Speed having a larger warehouse could do that if they chose to, or ship them to him to keep in the big ass barn where he keeps the toterhome across from the shop.

I think the biggest thing being overlooked is sponsorships. Cleet doesn't get free engines but he gets some sort of discount with the advertisement value from the views he gets. Steve can get him a scratch and dent SMX and a refurbed big block but if he built and reworked every single cleetus engine at a discount he'd never be able to complete his other customer engines that bring in more profit. One or two engines each at multiple engine builders and now he gets more discounts and a better chance of an emergency rebuild just once or twice a year. It's an everybody wins scenario.

Well, I normally don't make comments on other machine shops repairs, but this was drawn to my attention about the repairs that were made on these cylinder heads for Garrett, @6:24, when you showed your work on the repair of the blend of the cylinder head combustion chamber, I noticed that there was a lot of pitting and excessive voids in the filler weld. This is a common issue when TIG welding aluminum material in a cylinder head (to bring back depth and height) when the main core is not heated to a specific temperature. From my experience, I had the best results when I stripped the cylinder head down to the bare core and placed it over a open flame at a low heat setting on a rack in a controlled fire box. I would let them slowly (cook) up to the specific heat that I wanted. ( It would take up to two days mostly ) But when it came time to do the repair welding, the end results were unnoticeable and a better product that didn't promote torching, especially under boost. Just food for thought.

Cleetus is hard on equipment. Not a shocker. That Proline may live a long life, but then Cleetus....Also, Mullet and Eagle are two different cars in two different applications.

It will be interesting to see. Seems like many feel that maintenance is not one of Garrett's strong points. And that Proline really needs love and care to stay alive.

As for the SMX that was in Mullet. Harmonics do really weird things. I don’t think it was a fault of Steve or Cleet. It was just one of those weird engine things

I can swear that i heard Cleet say that he may have hit 9,5k rpm on the SMX a couple of times, a couple of times/events. So in my book that SMX you built is on it's 3-6th life. I love Cleet and it has much to do that i like him stepping over some boost/rpm boundrys. He's has the heart of a discoverer, no matter what the cost will be!! I also love your vids Steve since I'm no longer able to job on engines as I loved to back in time. Work hard, stay happy!

I remember when the SMX actually warped the quarter panels because the rocker panels twisted. It's snapped more suspension welds and strengthening welds than I can count. It also had to have a strengthening plate added to the front of the motor. I don't think the El Camino was built to handle so much power. Let's not forget, it was still running in the low 7's on only six cylinders without detonating the block... Somehow?

Not gonna lie as a business owner I’d never do business with Garrett and it’s all because of his so called fans. They act like they know something about drag racing and Garrett destroying everything he drives and uses and then his so called fans attack whoever it be he is using in that vehicle. They are really screwing him over because people are gonna stop having his as customer or wanna sponsor him because of backlash they might get because people don’t know crap about making horsepower and go attacking businesses blaming them saying it’s all their fault Garrett destroys every engine or part he uses. Because the last thing Garrett does is take it easy on anything and the lack of maintenance is even worse. And when we destroys something here comes his group of no nothing fans bashing a business and company/brand. The internet shouldn’t speak for anyone or anything they don’t own themselves let alone afford or have never ran. Is simple

Just a thought about the preheating on the engines mentioned at roughly 11:30 . For the engines with water cooling, you can get a Calix Forced Circulation Heater which will heat the engine to 230°F. They also have contact heaters in case you want to run it dry, or insertion heaters (Which needs to run wet) in case the customers might want to pre-heat the engines.

I have been saying the same thing on both of your Facebook. If there was a problem Steve would not have dropped everything to take parts to Cleet. They both have hints in there video's that the engine was not the best fit for that car. You can't take a 410 World of Outlaws motor and put it in a drag car and vise versa and expect them work work well. Love the Derek from Vice Grip Garage reference on the shirt. As soon as you held that up I was thinking the same thing!
