I want to make a disclaimer that with a lot of these tests, there are multiple variables that could influence the results. If I was to repeat all these tests, there could be slightly difference results. I also want to correct what I said at the begging of the video. my theory about the grinders on the threaded rod being easy after the first cut may be because the rod is hotter and therefore cuts easier, just food for thought.

Is it just me or Dewalt wasn't actually second to last in the grinder test? Bosch and AEG had worse times, somehow AEG getting 3 points and Dewalt 2. It doesn't change a lot, pretty much Dewalt is equal to the Milwaukee. Also those kits kinda represent what you can get from each brand but at the same time it's not really apples to apples comparasion, many brands throw mixed staff into those kits so in many instances you can get better in each brand. For example I belive that was 3rd or 4th milwaukee (doesn't matter both are great, 4th gen have slight edge) which are their top dogs and I'm not so sure with other brands.

My cousin liked my hikoki tools but he preferred the range offerings of Milwaukee the best so went with them instead. I know hikoki are trying to bring more tool variety to country’s outside of Japan but they have to get past the huge monopoly the big 3 have (Milwaukee, makita & dewalt).

My concensus on this for the top brands: -For smaller scale maintenance/installation jobs like hvac, electrical repair, post-construction smaller scale installation, or any other final stage detail oriented jobs, or home maintenance, id choose bosh/milwaukee 12v tools and maybe some 18v. Specifically, for fine woodworking/cabinetry, definitely Bosch 12v. For auto repair/maintenance, definitely milwaukee 12v. -For heavier construction/general contractor jobs, when you are in a small team or by yourself and you own your own tools instead of your company buying you tools, then metabo hpt. Flexible tool range, great warranty, and great battery system plus the bonus of an A/C adapter for your 36v cordless tools to become corded. -For someone that wants their tools to be exclusively or almost entirely on one battery platform, but still wants to be able dip their toe in a wide range of industries or tasks, while being ok with not necessarily having access to some specialized tools and doesnt mind paying a little more, then makita it is. Even though they have a wide range, they might not have some of the more specialized specific cordless tools that you might want as a specific trades person, depending on the trade of course, such as 12v planers and routers like bosch has. -For working for a larger scale general construction company that buys you tool kits, and/or urges everyone to be on the same battery platform for the sake of big group productivity and to be able to borrow batteries from each other, then itll most likely be Dewalt in the U.S. (makita and bosch in europe/asia probably) and even sometimes Milwaukee. -I would argue that if you will be mixing tools that run on different voltages, I would run bosch or milwaukee 12v platforms (depends on what youre specializing in), and would also run Metabo Hpt 18v/36v tools alongside that for when you need a tool with more power or just as your general construction power tools. I cant justify spending money on Dewalt, because their 20v tools are comparable or the same to most other brand's 18v tool performance. I think the 20v label is a gimmick and really just a cheap way to charge more for batteries. And I think they were actually caught at one point advertising their 18v as 20v. 18v is the magic number, thats enough voltage to do construction, have decent battery life, be decent size. Its been the baseline for years for a reason. A measly 2v more is dishonest and cheap. I have the same gripe with hilti's 22v tools, 4v more is still not enough to be substantially different. And 22v is just such a silly number. If youre honestly looking for more battery output than 18v, but dont need as much as 36v tools, then buy Kobalt or spend a little more on Flex(black) since they both run 24v platforms. Theyre 6v more than 18v and 12v less than 36v so I think its the best battery for someone that wants more than 18v, but not as much as 36v or the size of 36v batteries... and thats why I love Metabo hpt multivolts. The batteries change between running 18v output in 18v tools and 36v output in 36v tools... and unlike makita, you dont need two 18v batteries to run a 36v tool, also unlike dewalt, theyre not.enormous to the point where they look ridiculous in a smaller tool like a driver. Another thing with makita is that I have the same gripe with their 40v platform as I do with dewalts 20v platform. Makita's 40v tools are comparable to Metabo hpt's 36v tools and metabo often blows them away. 40v is just a cheap gimmick for more money as 20v is. The only way id consider buying into the makita 40v is if I buy their 80v heavy construction tools that take two whole 40v battieries... but at that point, the tools are so big that It defeats the purpose of portability of cordless battery tools... so literally just buy the corded, air, or gas powered versions of those tools from Stihl, Ingersoll Rand, or Hilti or something.

I understand alot of people prefer Impactdrivers for screws cause you don't have to worry about kickback as much. However, since you mentioned previously you don't use the extra handles on the regular drills at all, those drills will ram in the screws you used for your impact driver test way faster. They will also be able to efficiently bash in screws that are much much longer. Unless you want to watch an episode of your favourite show waiting for your impact to fasten a 8x400 or similiar screw ;). But driving those in without an extra handle is not sth. your wrists enjoy, so that's why you have em on higher powered drills that are meant for that type of work.

But as you mentioned some of those were old like the impact driver and that's also the entry level angle grinder. The drill is very capable, 2nd only to the BiTurbo one but all other brands except DeWalt were using their top of the line drills. That circ saw is from last year but mid tier and the recip saw is their newest, the rest are 2yrs or older. But the issue here is from Bosch trying to fit more value than performance in a kit.

Biturbo equals brushless. I have that impact driver too. I thought it was brushed. 🤷 Anyway basically what I'm saying is that many of these Bosch tools are a generation or two old now.

@@planespeaking yeah, mixing a top of the line recip saw with their 2nd best drill, mid tier circ saw and 3 other entry level tools is quite confusing. I guess the more research we do as consumers, the better

Btw the Bosch impact driver does have speed settings just that ones more dearer

Lol, top of the range Milwaukee. Bottom of the range Makita, also the Hikoki, should be the triple hammer one
@jwanilpatel32236 ай бұрын
The triple hammer is designed for speed not for high torque impact ..... It would have done slower in the test

He’s just using what the manufacturers put in their $1999 ish kits. His previous video shows this when he unboxes the tools (except the makita saw - which wasn’t supplied in the kit)
@engineer_alv6 ай бұрын
Well, Hikoki had the advantage of being the only 36V lineup and it shows as it came on top. Not sure what ypur complain is if this is what MFRs chose to put in their large tool kits. Bosch could've also offered a BiTurbo kit but there is none in his market (or not for the same price)
@nizjiz16 күн бұрын
that is a triple hammer its the Japanese model which is what hikoki sell over the world now

When you use angle grinder on the metal it will heat the metal up. Hot metal is softer than cold, I'm not sure thats the actual reason but maybe something to consider.

Can't comment on other brands but after using a huge range of makita tools professionally with my old man for 16 years, I have to say they are so reliable. I don't think any of his Makitas have died, his impact driver is over 15 years old and only needed the brushes changing once, it's been through the ringer, used in the rain, dropped from 5 storeys, and is still going strong. I think one battery might have died once. He bought two new SDS brushless drills recently, I said why two? He said 'because they're so nice' lol. The brushless LXT range are worth every penny in my opinion.

Yeah, old Makita's. New are ALL made in china. They are not as good as the old stuff. They are not selling well and they have not done crap for battery development. Im not talking in USA. The whole world they are not selling well.

Really great work, thank you for it, I hope that giving you the gift by AEG does not affect the result

Excellent video! Obviously you know that all the brands have different models for each tool in different price and power categories, just wanted to point it out. A prime example is the dewalt drill being a compact cheap model, whereas the milwaukee is their top of the line that comes with a side handle.

Davedoescarpentry as an apprentice needing to buy a framing nail gun. What would you go for? I have milwalkee tools so far but that nail gun just doest sit right with me and hard to hand on youre belt? Would you go a second hand paslode or you reckon the AEG is worth getting? Cheers.
@MCHorner5 ай бұрын
I have the AEG, Dewalt, Milwaukee and Metabo nail guns. My favorite is the Metabo for speed and quality but it is a bit bulky. The AEG is my second choice. The Milwaukee is poorly balanced and the Dewalt is slow with old technology.

About why the first grinder cut always took longer... first grinder cut is into colder metal. As it heats it softens. This will also favour the tools towards the end of the test as the bar will retain some heat from before.. Not complaining, hindsight is a thing..., awesome work..

Should have used a screw tip auger bit for the drill test so tis up to the power of the drill to pull the bit through.

The amount of people that didn't watch the last video saying the tests are unfair is pretty amazing. Dudes testing kits, he didn't buy individual tools 😅 Anyway good to see a fellow Aussie testing the tools instead of another of the countless guys from usa in their shed that don't appear to use tools to earn money. Hard to get a baseline of how tools perform watching them do weird shit that no one does.

You not just abusing the tools, you are abusing yourself as well😂 I keep laughing when I was watching the bettery test. Man! 2289 saw cuts and 488 screws driving in and out! You are man of steel 🫡 BTW, I was planning to buy a set of Hikoki tools, glad I found the video 🫶🏻

For your bosch impact driver, mind definitely came with a variable speed. Not faster than Milwaukee but on par with Dewalt.

Fantastic vid, and right in time for my planned pruchase for one of these kits as im tired of breaking my current consumer DIY level tools (Im no tradie). The AEG seems to be the best value, and faily hardy (like yourself i like the feel of the framing nailer as well). Love the channel.

Idc. I thrash dewalt it works. Especially their rear handle saw and mag drill. They all do work.

Rarely use an impact driver to screw off bugles, find a drill on low speed gets a better bite, especially when doing new purlins to old pergola frames (especially oregon) I guess it would be to save your wrists, remember almost snapping mine off with the corded drills doing purlins back in the day.
@anythingandeverything1258Ай бұрын
Not bad. Only thing I saw as a potential variable changer was the saws had different blades. Different brands and styles cut better or worse then others. Would've liked to see that comparison with the same blade on all of them
@itsyaboyfatal80982 ай бұрын
with the grinder second cut is easier because you have rubbed off the logo sticker, the sticker slows it down

Great video mate, had Milwaukee for years and looking at making a switch. Never considered AEG stuff, but after seeing this might be giving it a crack especially at the price. Gained a subscriber 👍

Why are you using an M18 fuel drill against a mid range dewalt drill? Afraid the DCD999 will win?
@grantpalmer853 ай бұрын
Ive got the aeg 185mm saw and its fine but uncomfortable and shit hand position.. brakes itself too much but better than the older one i had.. the apprentices hikoki 185mm is so much more comfortable to use.. but id pick a powered makita 185mm over any of the battery saws when ripping.. just lighter and endless power

These kits don't always have the top of the line of each tool brand. I don't use makita, but that could be the case here.
