Can’t wait to watch this entire video in bed instead of sleeping, pretending I too can fix all of these Ds lites

I may be clueless as far as fixing DS consoles goes, but I do have two maybe useful tidbits for you! So depending on your camera/recording setup, there ought to be one way or another to set a custom white balance. If you use a pristine white DS screen or what have you as your reference, then you can match the white to the video feed in your recording software or even camera screen (though best to test on at least 2 different displays without any display tinting like night mode etc). Once set, as long as the lighting is consistent, the colour of everything else will always be relative to the whiteness of the reference DS. Usually you'd use a white/grey card to calibrate WB but as the main thing you care about is the tint of the DS's which is always in relation to a crystal clear white anyway, I would imagine it's probably fine to just do it based on the whiteness of a good DS screen, but don't quote me on that specifically lol The next thing is for removing adhesive residue- I know people say lighter fluid, I've never tried it, it kind of sketches me out, and I don't wanna get the stuff on me, so what I use is acetone-free nail vanish remover, any off-brand stuff will do, it's cheap, it works, but it does stink very very strong of nail vanish remover, it's a few steps above isopropyl alcohol lol on the fumes spectrum, don't be fooled by the "acetone-free" part... Regular acetone nail vanish remover can strip the texture/finish even the colour off plastic, as I learned when I was 12 and used acetone to wipe some permanent marker off the back of my big ol' square Toshiba laptop. It made the textured/matt finish glossy, and significantly lightened the grey colour of the plastic! Anyway, never had issues with the acetone-free stuff since, it's less corrosive so less effective, but in my experience much much safer (I still wouldn't bathe plastic in it for very long, but you shuldn't need to soak anyway, just apply and wipe, comes clean off! Anyway I'm learning lots from you too, I'm really just starting to get interested in trying some casual restoration projects, this kind of content is such a knowledge mine man, thank you!

@KoraOSRS Wow, thank you for these tips!! I've never even considered manually adjusting white balance, I will need to do some testing to see if i can make it better. I really appreciate you! And thanks for the other tip too, I'm going to try some stuff out and will add this to the list:) Super super helpful stuff! And I'm glad you enjoy the vids, glad they're informative 💯

@ I hope some of it ends up helping! :) And you’ll be happy to know I ordered my first GBA to repair only a few days ago! Pristine condition Glacier AGB-001, only it powers off/LED fades as soon as you turn it on. Done some research, asked some clever people, and it seems like it should be a simple disassemble and clean of the power switch, which would be pretty amazingly simple for my first “good find” on eBay haha Will still be on the hunt for one more GBA then I can start trading pokemon between carts. Didn’t think about that when I pick my a DS Lite to be my main GBA to play on. Can’t complain about too many Gameboys though! Hahah

the dremel is WAY overkill, just use a cotton bud soaked in ipa, works just fine

What spray cleaner are you using for the consoles?

So I have a board that has a faulty touchscreen. I've swapped it with another known working digitizer and it still gives me issues. What could be the issue?
@Retro.Revolution21 күн бұрын
@@wc7484 I'm honestly not sure, I would try a replacement board to see if that'll remedy the issue!
@wc748421 күн бұрын
@Retro.Revolution i actually figured out what was going on. Apparently, the digitizer was faulty. I used the same one(bad one) on all of my boards and the same thing. Until I used a different digitizer. Another thing I'm facing with another board is that the right-hand side, close to the edge, doesn't read the inputs that well.

Crazy how a WiFi chip can mess up a whole ds lmao

3ds too!! My brothers 3ds was presumed broken for so long, it was lucky we didn't throw it away. I did some googling and after reseating the wifi card it worked like new again
