The 2004-2006 YFZ450's are notorious for crank bearings going out ... especially if you don't keep up with the oil changes ... In 2007, Yamaha added the oil squirter to the clutch side case cover, that shoots a stream of oil into the crank rod bearings.
@kylebeach2316

41:04, he reason the BOLT was so danged hard to remove - after it was almost out, was that you had "ball-peened" the threaded end so much, the diameter of the threaded end was so much MORE than that of the hole, which resulted in the force needed to slide it through Can I make a suggestion, for the next time/s you have frozen bolts to remove - use a car steering rod bearing puller, but have a sliding hammer that you can screw into the bolt hole of the claw, instead of the bolt which pushes the steering joint out of the arm. That way, you will have an "in-line" hammer - instead of that 45 degree obtuse angle to work with.

Good video as usual. I'd recommend tapping the head end of the swingarm bolt and using a slide hammer to finish pulling it instead of the air hammer and a chisel. Also, a longer soak in Kroil might help. I've used it to lube bolts on equipment in dams that had been installed in a damp environment since the 1930s.

you do a lot of work like this, i work on lots of powersport toys as well and some real old stuff. Just wondering why you dont have a oxy-acetylene torch as it is far superior to a propane torch. When i have trouble and have the correct pullers and slide hammer and yada yada, the last thing is some fast concentrated heat from an oxy-acetylene torch, works 99% of the time. If you really dont want to purchase that at least use MAP gas instead of propane. It can be bought usually right beside the bottles of propane but in a yellow bottle. Even map gas is far better than straight propane. Keep of the good work, I love your committment to completing your projects and doin a good job. Peace.

I've been looking for a four-wheeler but I'll know to stay away from those! Just finished up a 2004 Honda recon and it looks awesome!

Good video Couple things I would suggest is get a real hammer like a 4lb sledgehammer that would get that swing awe bolt out a bit easier and if you plan on rebuilding this thing get the repair manual for step by step instructions clearance specs and torque specs I’ve done my 08 250f with the manual it was easy enough

My bet it that he never changed the oil in it and did the exact same thing my bike did .. same failure and mine was because I rode it hard and was way over hours for oil change .. I changed ever bearing in the engine and trans because if one got starved for oil the others are worn from it to I’m sure .. if your going to keep it anyway mines still running strong after 3-4years now

1) Spark at the right time. 2) Enough compression to run. 3) The and the fuel/air mixed up at a good ratio. Those are the 3 main things you need for it to run. Checking spark and compression is pretty easy. Still have a problem---fuel delivery is all that is left.

Listen pal any used bike I ever bought no matter who it was from friend or stranger I always bought with with intention of full rebuild even if it was just rebuilt. You never know what’s going happen, who did the work how mechanically skilled they are or if the motor is just going to grenade for no reason. With that being said most people bullshit just to get rid of their basket case.

When u we’re removing the main engine bolt (frame bolt whatever) with the hammer then u tried the impact hammer u were struggling but what I do is I use the claw of the hammer and it doesn’t slip. Just bang it out with that.

Guy sitting at home watching this video after you picked up his quad... dang it. Hopefully we see this one come back to life on another video. My guess... it ran low on oil for X amount of time, or oil turned into sludge from not being changed.... then failure happened. Luckily parts were kept in a box, and it wasnt sitting outside for years on side of the house.

Oh yes the infamous frozen bolt, dealt with that on my 400ex and it was a pain.. ended up cutting the bolt with a modified sawzall blade on both sides, taking out the motor. Was still a pain because the sleeve kept it from coming out of the frame and the motor. Luckily the bolt is hollow and I cut a channel in it length wise. Wow what a disaster. You got really lucky on yours for sure.

I would check the shift forks closer, if there is any rotational marks on them they're bent. Better safe than sorry.

Well you did another good video. I think the dude knew what happened or at least had an idea. Heard what he said while you were looking at the mavhine so…..wonder if he drained the oil and replaced it hoping to hide the medal bits. Any ways just replace what’s needed to replace and keep it or sell it for more than 1000. Hopefully the crank isn’t to messed up where the piston rod was mounted

There is a video out there called important information for 2004 through 2006 YFZ 450, go look at that it has something to do with the oiling system on that bike you might as well fix it while you have it open

You can use a smaller flat spanner that fits over the swing arm bolt shaft, smaller than the hex head, and hit the spanner and ot will come out better than hitting the head of the bolt damaging the head.
