I have a the predecessor to that machine and you have one of the most productive scrapper brands at the time it was built. The one i have is a 1964 model. It is a C-Pull with the V-8 engine, electric steer and electric conveyor with the Hancok scraper. One thing to keep track of is most of those machines were POSITIVE GROUND for the batteries. The big alternator (generator) should produce about 380 Volts. The flux bridge on the main transformer usually maintains about 10-15 amps, more when the conveyor is running. If you used and 8 inch drop center on the middle two cutting edges you should put 20 yards of dirt in the bowel in under a minute, once you get you cut area set up. Do not let the engine drop below 1800 rpm when electric conveyor is on that is where the best effeciency is and the conveyor won't stall out that easy. You will never kill the engine by putting it in gear. The Allison transmission has a positive lockup in first and reverse, 2nd though 6th have a high and low side to them, the high side is a direct lockup that happens about 1800 rpm. These machine were the cadillac of scrapers when they came out.

A lesson learned it is always a good idea. To remove the valve covers on a detroit and check that the fuel racks are free. Sometimes they can runaway and blow up. This was not bad here but anytime an older diesel engine is shut down they go back to full throttle so they will start again.

I used to run one of these things and hated every second of it. The electric drive caused it to dig leaned over and was very top heavy. The 2-cycle did fine but if the paddle drive had been balanced it'd have been a LOT better. I know the newer ones went to hydraulic on each side. Smart move. Never had anything against RG but this needed more work.

Back in the early/mid-seventies I also ran one these. A close to new 222G. It was a very efficient and very productive machine. I was an operating engineer (Local 675 - Ft Lauderdale) and I was paired with a dragline, a dozer, and a grader. We put in all the rough infrastructure for a unincorporated community of what is now around 40,000 ppl. That thing ran like a dream. I wasn't all that excited initially to run it, but times were getting lean in the hvy equipment/development business. I hadn't ran a pan (scraper) for many years at that point but I actually enjoyed operating the 222G. That is until the interest rate killed off just about all development (IIRC 1976) and the developer put it into 'pause' mode for a few years. By the time they cranked it back up, I had moved on to a white collar job as there was nothing going on with heavy equipment. Anyway, the 222G was a great machine. Just don't run it when it was wet (rain). That could get exciting to say the least. I see many jobs here on YT where one of these (in good running order) could speed up and provide mucho profits on many hvy equipment projects. Also could be a more cost effective alternative to 'tiling' for farms. But excavators have made them not-so-desired, I guess, except in road building projects (which is what I did with my 222G). Good memories.

@@bishop9598 My deal was dams here in the NC hills and if the blasted motor for the paddles had been balanced on the other side too or hydraulic I'd had no [problem but up here it was top heavy and awkward. Never worked union. Might've been different but it was all open shop here. Out in the sticks. DR Allen started the job and we were helping cap out. I was no stranger to pans or rough places having herded 631's, 619's, TS-14's and 24's and after I got off that thing and on the 8H and got the roads straightened out things were better but that was it for me and the Wobbleco. Buddy of mine turned that thing 90 degrees, put it in gear and it flopped over. They just flopped it back and ran it. That was it for me. Now it's a mower. Some folks say I lived through it. I wonder, sometimes. GBWYou!

There are three elevating scraper sizes, to this day, 11 yard, 21 yard, and 31 yard nominally. In Wabcos, which led the game until most scraper manufacturers quit in 1982, they all ran Detroits. The 111A had the 471, the 222A had the 8V71, and the 333 had the 12V71. The mighty twinpowers, the 222FT and the 333FT had 2 x 8V71T's and 2 x 12V71T's respectively. The 11 yard was updated to the 101F, then the 101G, I run two of these to this day, they had the 504C Cummins engine, with a Clark auto trans. Both good scrapers. The 252FT was updated to planetary final drives, and had hydraulic elevators, they had a great reputation but I prefer the electric elevators, far more powerful and reliable. They kept the 2 x 8V71T Detroits, with Allison tranys. They had a pinion and bull gear front drive, planetary rear drive. This was updated to the 353FT, the best and biggest elevator ever made, in 1978. I ran one of these for 10 years. Incredible machine. Still operated today by Goodmans in New Zealand, after an incredible complete rebuild. Still running 12V71T Detroits.
