I think that the main reason why the back glass cracked after you installed it is because you didn’t remove the plastic cover on the sticky tape on the back glass where the charging coil is, which created pressure.

i joined your premiere - who cares about the broken back class, it’s not falling off the phone like it was before. i worked in commercial IT for years and i saw people destroy their phones trying to repair them (and losing all data in the process) so a small crack on the back of a cheap 15 pro is well worth it. as for value, you have it - i paid 3x as much for mine and guess what, mines in a case so it’s indistinguishable. i don’t blame you for buying used and with how much i shell out yearly to stay current-ish you have me thinking more about doing the same thing. great content and videos as always and i’m glad the algorithm decided to drop your M1 Max MBP video in my lap.

Nice upgrade. Welcome to the 15 Pro Max Familly. 3 years ago had a 13 mini with a contract, then my brother gifted me his 14 Pro in exchange of my 13 mini for my birthday. But I was so frustraded that I still didn't have usb C so I waited for the release of the 16 series. Sold my 14 Pro for a good money at a pawn shop kept the money untill the release but heard the rumors so I changed my plan for a used 15 Pro Max. Found one for 850e in mint condition battery at 97% percent zero trace of usure. Came with Apple official case that I quickly change for a Dbrand grip case with a Spigen screen protector. I am so happy as it was my missing tech piece for the ALL USB C lol.

​@@schvabek Basically trade in an ipad air 4 and a Dell 14" laptop with the top spec from 2021/22 for a hp omen with a RTX 3070 (Yeah I know the HP idea was not a good start but i'm the kind of getting a second chance) Worst deal of my life but I needed a portable gaming station at the time. Recently had a few problems with the laptop, temps like 90° in the desktop, fans sounding like a jet, defaults on the screen, and a bad charging port. Everything is still in warranty. 2 weeks for a laptop with the worst IPS screen I saw in my life, thermal even worst and the horrible part, the IT guy destroyed the frame of the laptop and glued it back like nothing happened. I saw that because I had to swap back my 2 M2 SSD. So I went to the shop like a hurricane. They didn't accept the fact and only wanted to give me a cashback but no money... I insisted that I am a loyal customer of the shop in all of France since I move all the time and even sold them a good amount of gold... But no refund. I said to them that I anticipated this issue, I check the stock of the website every day for a long time, and they never had a computer similar. The manager came in said "you now you can buy everything you want to but I insisted I want a similar laptop or a refund" and then magically a brand new MSI laptop popped in with a RTX 4070 and a nice i7 a 16gb of DDR5. The base of the refund was 699€ The manager wanted 100€ on top of my cashback, I said nopeeee only 50€ lol they didn't even know what the specs were but at the same time I quickly checked them when the sellers wanted to the shop finding the power supply. Gave them the 50€ and drove back to my home to set up the laptop as it was stuck in the Windows 11 boot screen so I couldn't confirm the specs lol but everything was ok. Sorry for the long message, but I think it's a good story in parallel of your stories, as we can all make good deals if we search them ! (sometimes it's hard.)

Aha, I used to follow the same idea, I’d get a two ish year old iPhone when the “new” iPhone was brand new, I’d followed this from my iPhone 8 to my 11 Pro Max. I recently picked up a 15 pro max because I found one open box for 850. Thought that was amazing so I’ve got that now. Enjoy your 15!

Replacement parts are usually inferior that's why it is easy to break it while installing. I had a replacement touch screen for my SE and it just shattered while in my pocket (I sat on it) as the glass is thinner and more brittle than an OEM screen.

I would defiantly recommend using plastic prying pick to get the back glass off and not an x-acto knife because you could scratch/damage other components in the phone.

Literally every shop around uses a metal jimmy/prying tool, since it’s skinny and strong enough to pry up.

I did something very very similar to this, I bought a standard iPhone 15 for $350 with a broken back, ordered a new back for $14 and had to swap over the coil, flash and mic. I also cracked my back on the first attempt, but I bought another back and it's arriving soon for a second attempt.

I just bought a used 15 pro max 256gb white titanium for my fiancee for christmas with a shattered back for $600. 100% battery health, was only used for a few months. Was manufactured this year (2024) in February and started being used in May. Front screen is just fine. The back is covered by a case anyway so its not even noticeable

USB-C is backwards compatible with USB-A. You can literally hook it up to any older computer, just like lightning.

@@schvabek I forgot to mention that I still have the board thank god, but the screen and back glass aren't actually that expensive to me, if I wanted to go genuine screen, yeah about 550 AUD but for a lower quality 3rd party it's about 150 AUD or less depending on where I go, I also picked the phone up for a good deal to be fair at about 1000 AUD so I'm happy to pay the cost to refurbish it back to its original condition. plus side is it's a fun project for me but also leaves me with a nice camera to use

The silicone case is most likely a clone, but it is still a good deal considering Apple charges 50 for an official one... Also if you get a Non-Genuine or unknown part for the back glass (I think apple serialized them? Im not 100%) I think you could try IOS 18's repair fixer, it should pair the new parts on the glass, and wireless charger.

i just got a 13 pro max for £200, i just need to replace the back camera as the OIS is broken and the lenses are dirty as the lenses are pretty much gone (apart from 0.5x, that's perfect condition) and the battery as it's on 78% bh.

@@schvabek original commenter being rude for no reason but the reason ppl transfer magsafe coil and original back glass flex is that when apple first made back glass removeable on the 14 they also made it so that if you didnt use the original magsafe coil when you replaced the backglass it would bootloop the phone every 180 seconds, then understandably people got pissed and they removed this requirement in a software update, along with restoring a few other third party anti-repair features.

I’m not sure if you care about this, but I wouldn’t buy back glasses from Ali express or temu, etc because they aren’t going to be nearly as durable, and at the end, the glass covers the cameras and it sort of makes he camera lenses look fake.. 🤷

I couldn’t care less, honestly. As an individual, it’s nearly impossible to get OEM parts, unless it’s from a working second hand unit, from like eBay, but in any case it’s going to be many times more expensive, and the idea here was to save money. And personally I don’t care about the “original” look or whatever. For me, it’s a tool I use to make my videos and do other productivity related tasks.
