the thing with memory soldered on is, that it at least brings some technical benefit (more speed, lower latency, compared to SO-DIMM). the same thing cant be said at all about storage being soldered on. it slightly decreases power consumption, but not by far and imho its not worth it.

Id design a personalized website to function as simular as possible to whatever OS they were using at that time, same folder structure with all their personalized settings, pictures, notes, error reports, same wallpaper, icons in the same place they last left it everything! OMG that would be soo sick.

I miss how developer-friendly Apple used to be. They made their developer tools free, and heavily pushed or even introduced open standards like OpenGL and OpenCL. Developing for the Mac was FUN. Now they’ve become closed source and expect developers to adopt half baked propriety tools like SwiftUI. And you have to pay them $100 a year for a certificate to distribute your software.

me greening while watching this video on a fresh install of Snow Leopard (2008 MacBook Pro 4,1 15"). My 2006 MacMini on the other hand runs Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion. I would like to upgrade to Mountain Lion, which I did on a couple of my 14 white (and black) plastic MacBooks to have 64 Bit wine, but I stick with the supported Lion yet. I upgraded my MacMini from an Intel Core Duo 1.66 GHz to an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz processor (don't forget the 2,1 firmware to handle the C2D and more RAM), SSD, 4 GB RAM (I guess). The only thing I still need to swap is the Wifi card. I will install one of the MacBook Wifi cards from the 2,1 or later models (in that MacMini1,1 now sticks the same old Wifi from the MacBook1,1).

TECHNICALLY you can upgrade Mac storage with the M series, using a 3rd company or being mega tech savvy and having a pro setup with a heat station and the ability to flash the NAND chips. But yh slapping in a new SSD in a mac doesn't happen now and that sucks as the easiest way to keep a computer going is storage and RAM. The thing is apple just want your money, and a non-repairable, non upgradable computer serves them and their desire for profit.

we used to send them email from their own email account and show them what kind of info we found and how and why and how to protect against it. that said in our case it was longer ago, the school network used windows server and most people also used windows. both of which have almost no form of security, so we could easily acces all their devices in many cases also install things remotely without even trying. but we could also see many of their usernames and passwords, emails and passwords, paypal accounts, steam accounts, etc. and all with passwords. to make it worse, when someone has logged in to something on a windows computer at some point then it is actually very easy to find back much of those account as long as not speciffically logged out, removed and then the physical location on the disk overwritten. the last one tends to happen on it's own over time, but those first 2 many of them forget, so a account either stays logged in somewhere, or they forget to tell the computer to remove it. after all windows has insanely terrible security. the viruses we made where more for fun and show. so they would just cause obvious things, but still some did more cool things like taking over the hardware to make it do weird things, like using the fans or harddrives and controlling their spinrate to make music. also things like the computer starting to talk and curse to users when they opened certain programs. note that back then windows also had a pretty severe exploit where it would see any code written in a speciffic language which was originaly meant to kind o be like what javascript is now, but for internet explorer as direct system code. since somehow some some people at microsoft thought it was a smart idea to write some core functionality o the os in that language, and actually make it execute through internet explorer, but to prevent it from getting permision errors, they decided to just give any code written in that language full system acces. next to that, that language already had acces to way more things than one should think. I guess they thought that because pretty much noone really used it anyway they could just add full system permission to it without anyone noticing. in reality however it allowed to take over the entire computer with ease. as a funny thing, these days java script actually is the main form to distribute mallware, though back then in that language it was so easy, and by default any code written in that language would execute as system code without requiring even admin accounts to run such code, and web pages actually could also run such code, this includes if you just infected the network server, and a computer goes to one of those network login pages or such. though funnily this was just one of the many ways we had to easily overtake things. for example even recently windows still stored all things like passwords and accounts in plain text, and even in cases when not you could just go to a certain submenu in the network tab(without needing admin rights) and from there you could with a few simple tricks see the entire database with all passwords and usernames and other such date. even now this isn't fully fixed in windows, especially in windows server since there you still need to manually do things to prevent that. we had many ways into the entire network. and also bypassing admin permissions also is pretty easy on windows in general. one of the simplest methods only requires plugging in a liveboot usb when the pc is off then booting onto it, doing a few simple commands and after that when starting windows you can directly overwrite or create any admin accounts from system level and even then this still fails to clarify the extend of how unsecure windows is. that said when throwing away harddrives or ssd's or such or when selling them used, for harddrives you can use special tools to overwrite all the sectors with random data or 0 or 1 or such. for ssd's it is harder since the integrated controller handles that, some might have a function for it, though most don't really do it right. so to do it on a ssd, wipe the ssd, then fill it completely with files, it is also best if the files match the block size of the file system used. or essentially make a script to write a stream or file which has the exact size of the ssd. the other option is destuction or using it yourself for backups or such, or when selling it without securely clearing data you have to hope the person who gets is and who gets it after that won't abuse it. sometimes it is okay, like when only the os was on it and all user data and such on other drives, this sometimes is the case with pc's which are mostly netbooted yet still have a drive with the os on it, though all programs and data are on other drives in such cases, except for system programs. so there where 2 things we did. we installed games and viruses we made on all the school computer and the network

2:28 wait wait wait wait, are the wallpapers from these available somewhere? I love that. I'd get one of those tiny colorful notebooks but where I live they're a little too expensive for what is essentially a toy/shelf decor at this point, I could get something that's still useful productively at that price edit: oh, they said the name of the artist, I'll look it up.
