Air or coil shocks?
Rear shocks can be found on full suspension mountain bikes, the shock helps to absorb the rear wheel impact when you ride on steep and bumpy trails.
Today we’ll take a look on the air and coil shocks with different size and length, each of them has their advantages and disadvantages.
The air shocks are lighter and they are more easier to tune the spring rate just by changing the air pressure, but it requires more regular service and maintenance because the seals need to be replaced frequently.
The coil shocks are more reliable with little to no maintenance, they do provide consistent performance and are stronger than air shocks. But their weight is somehow heavier and to correct the sprint rate, you need to swap with a stiffer or softer spring.
So what shocks do you have and which one do you prefer the most?
Without doubt, the shock gives you a smoother ride.
