@royfontaine55262 ай бұрын
@@anthonyhenryhoover9278 yep if I were in the market for that, I'd be much keener if I saw four new and decent tyres as opposed to three. In fact, seeing three would put me off more than anything, if only for reasons of OCD. I wouldn't begrudge paying a little more for a full set of four - probably even more than the difference of the cost of the tyre! Or rather, I'd be much more impressed with four new tyres and a sticker price of 4250, than three at a fiver under £4k. Even on a cheap or basic car it would annoy me. I'm not sure why Matt does this, as he puts so much effort/cost/time into most things. Another thing I don't understand is his readiness to fit cheap crappy aftermarket wheel trims!

I had intermittent loss of power on the sound system on my Mk2 roadster - ignition switch was replaced to fix it, and trust me, if its the same fault, it is VERY intermittent and won't have gone away. Got my Mk2 in 2013 and still absolutely love it and it doesn't seem to age. Mine's the full fat normally aspirated 3.2 VR6 (these were all Quattro) with the S-Tronic dual clutch transmission and the noise it makes is epic. Even the roadster is surprisingly practical boot wise. Mk2s do have some common faults though. Leather seats often sag, window regulator cables rust and jam (most will have been replaced by now - its possible to get stainless steel cable kits), steering racks can wear badly and go rattly. On the Quattros, the Haldex pump often fails eventually because the filter doesn't usually get changed as part of servicing (you don't get a warning light for this fault - so it's worth code-scanning any Quattro car as it doesn't just affect the TT). On all VW group cars of this era, the alarm sounder internal batteries leak anywhere from 10 years on and wreck the sounder PCB - which again will be picked up with a code scan. On the Mk2 roadster, a bit of galvanic corrosion is common under the rubber seal just aft of the door apertures but can generally be kept at bay, and the roof flap servos need taking out and stripping down for a clean periodically as grease can work its way from the servo gears onto a carbon potentiometer inside (if the resulting error code isn't dealt with, it can eventually lead to the roof stopping working). The 3.2 will hit 60 in under 6 seconds and you can get a good one for under £5K now as they don't attract the premium of the TTS or TTRS, and you tend to get stuffed a bit on road tax. This TDI looks similarly good value, and worth £4K of anyones money.

I’ll also add one for the roadsters - please check your drains. I learnt this the hard way, came back off holiday to find a car more akin to a swamp. I’d tried to clean the drains with soapy water before but it’s not enough if it’s already blocked.

My mk2 2008 roadster was terrible. One of the most unreliable cars I have ever owned. It had a constant leak through one of the doors into the carpet which two garages could not fix. In the end the last straw for me was the roof material was coming away from the rear window glass in places.

@user-ot2rw5gu2s2 ай бұрын
Why did you prefer it over the mk3?
@huwd22922 ай бұрын
The Mk2 has less tech but feels a bit more tactile. The mk3’s I had were a basic 1.8 (underpowered and lacked the good tech of the Mk3 eg virtual dashboard) and a TTS which was powerful, very nice but, for the money, I found underwhelming. The Mk2 is in that sweet spot where a 2.0 petrol is more than quick enough, makes a nice sound, feels a bit smaller than the Mk3 and the price of them makes you feel like you are beating the system. In some ways the Mk3 is a bit too grown up. Perhaps when they become bargains I will feel different about them. The TT, the Mk2 especially, is a cosy little coupe to be in. It reminds me of being in my 911 but it’s much better built! 😊

A lot of car for the money. Maybe high miles but full service history and as always well sorted.

Although diesels aren't seen as sporty, it's more practical whilst you can still have some fun!

Great looking motor 👍🏻 I’ve always liked this generation of TT. Though for me and having 2 young kids, they’re just a bit too impractical, which is a shame because I would get one. I think for that year and mileage, I wouldn’t want to pay any more than £3.5k

3.5k to 4k Plus Audis run forever if looked after. Plus with it being a Quattro it’s good for the winter.
