I’m back and the ford techs say it’s the main battery. It’s a energi so they quoted 11k for a new battery. How viable do you think a cell swapped battery would be or do you think it makes more sense to get a new car? Edit: just brought it home from the dealership and looks like its over. Stop safely now... Huge edit: so after the car was sitting awhile, the 12v battery ended up dying. After jump starting it, there is no errors and the resistance on the battery looks normal on forscan. It’s been months since that and the car is still running just fine. If anyone is in this situation, try disconnecting the 12v battery, as a quick reset to the ECU/BCM might do the trick.

Is there any chance you would be willing to help me? I am lost with this MkZ Hybrid I bought. HVB allows me to crank the engine but it never starts the car. Only codes I get are PA10C and another from the pcm that matches. Is there a reset process? It seems like it isn’t getting fuel but perhaps this is a safety and part of the engine disabled code. Any help is greatly appreciated
@fordtechchrisАй бұрын
I would suggest you stop cranking on it, the HV battery only has so much energy in it and if it dies you can't just recharge it with a battery charger. That's kind of a generic code that requires more diagnosis to determine why the engine isn't running, ie fuel pressure test, spark test, MAF sensor etc. I won't be able to help much more than that. Good luck though. I'm sorry you're dealing with that
@ChadMeesАй бұрын
@@fordtechchrisdo you happen to know if there is anything else that disables fueling? FORScan shows FUEL_CUTOFF-INP as Enabled in the BECM. I have spark, fuel pressure seems good but injectors don’t open. They are just dribbling while cranking. If I bypass the pcm and energize each injector they open and close as expected. Is there something I need to do to re enable the engine/fuel similar to an inertia switch?
@fordtechchrisАй бұрын
@@ChadMees I'm not sure off the top of my head. But it definitely seems like you have no fuel pressure if the injectors are dribbling. Of there is an inertia reset, it should outline the procedure in the owners manual. I think that would be controlled by the RCM. Most likely you have a bad fuel pump driver module. You can test it by unplugging and jumping pin 1 to pin 5 and pin 4 to pin 8. This applies power directly to the fuel pump. Only replace them with Ford parts. You should be able to self test the fuel pump control module as well.
@ChadMeesАй бұрын
@@fordtechchris if I energize each injector it sprays and I have run the self test where I can hear the fuel pump cycle. I can also control It and leave it in the run position from FORScan. This makes me believe the supply and mechanics are all good but the pcm is disabling the injectors. This is a hard one to diagnose and my next step is to verify all pcm and fuel related fuses. It looks like on the cmax there is a dedicated fuse for injectors but on my MkZ the fuse is shared with the FPDM
@fordtechchrisАй бұрын
@@ChadMees gotcha. I'm sorry I can't help much more without being there. Unfortunately trying to remote diagnose stuff never works very well. I feel like you're on the right path that it's being disabled in the software. Just need to identify what's causing the PCM to shut down fueling.

@fordtechchris2 жыл бұрын
I still had 12v power, only the high voltage battery was bad. But, you can manually open the door and pop the hood. On the driver's side there should be a red tab sticking up. This is the jumper location to connect jumper cables or a jump box. The ground can be attached to a grounding bolt near that area as well. This will give you enough 12v to open the trunk. @fordtechchris3 жыл бұрын
Actually they are a little cheaper as far as maintainance. The brakes almost never need to be replaced, they don't have belts. I get 40+mpg. Having the break downs are the worst part. If something gives out in the transmission, it is a very expensive unit and could total the car, unless a used unit is sourced. That's how I got the battery replaced cheap enough that I would only consider it a moderately expensive breakdown. But you can still have your normal failures that go with any car. And the transmission/hybrid battery failures are rare.

I have only come across that when the customer jump started the 12v battery backwards and blew the fuse for the charger. The DC-DC converter is part of the hybrid "battery", however there are a bunch of other systems that can affect the operation. I highly recommend taking it to the Ford dealer to get an accurate diagnosis because they can plug in the IDS and find the fault the car sees. @@donnieflame I think I've seen one bad transmission in the 8 years of C-Max. Very reliable. Sometimes the trans case leaks at the bottom and it's a big job to fix. But it always stays as a small drop, not really worth fixing outside of warranty. Otherwise they're pretty great cars and not many common failures. Good luck!

You could’ve fixed it for him? But you instead hustled him out of his car ! Nice job

The customer had already spent hundreds of dollars at another dealer. When we told him the hybrid battery was dead, he asked, what are my options to get rid of it? I said I was interested, and paid him exactly what he asked. It was a completely fair deal for him.
