I think the 1.6 were actually a modified Zetec engine which was belt driven. The larger 1.8 and 2.0 were the Mazda-derived Duratec with chain drive. Confusingly the 1.6 was also renamed Duratec even though it was really a Zetec. And yes, I am fun at parties!!!!

Afaik the mk2 1.6 (the 115bhp version not the 99bhp) had the sigma engine. The 1.6 ecoboost is the turbocharged variant of that. Everyone says zetec... But Ford also conned people by having 'Zetec' as a trim level on its cars, not the 'Zetec' engine. It was clever marketing because even today those who had a Zetec trim, call its engines a Zetec... Which was a very reliable engine, when they didnt!

Clutches in all ford focus cars are high up the pedal, doesn't necessarily mean they are worn to the point of nearly slipping :)
@CrazyInWeston
@CrazyInWeston 10 ай бұрын
Not true. I bought my 2011 Focus 1.6 ecoboost nearly 4yrs ago and the clutch bite is so low to the floor, hardly need to raise the foot before the 'bite'. A good clutch? Aftermarket clutch? Or an outlier? (Seriously soooo low to the floor and not high at all).

@-never-gonna-give-you-up- 10 ай бұрын
@@CrazyInWeston there are exceptions, but I've gotten 4 fords in my life so far all varying from models and years, and every ford i had, had a high bite point (1 had it's clutch replaced at a ford dealership aka OEM clutch) I've yet to experience a ford with a low bite point. It could be aftermarket or perhaps they lowered the bite point? Or it could be normal from factory.

I had a 2009 ford focus, the facelift to this. I bought it for £1200 at 97k miles and had it for 3 years. It was flawless! I drove it up to 123k and sold it for £1200, just as much as I paid. 3 years after selling it I still occasionally see it on the road today. The mighty 1.6 petrol is clearly going strong still! One correction is that the 1.6p is belt driven as I did get the cambelt replaced on mine. Also the clutch being high I think is just a characteristic of these, I've driven a few and they have all been like that.

Focus Mk.2 is a decent car, partly because it was built to (almost) Volvo standards, albeit from cheaper materials. Volvo was part of Ford at that time and Ford has enough sense to adopt some Volvo quality control processes while not imposing on Volvo too many cheap parts like GM did with Saab.

I didn't know that. I do know Ford acquired Jaguar/ Landrover and Volvo for some time but... Shame Ford let them go, those car companies don't produce great cars anymore not reliable anyway.

They're the labrador dog of the car world. Absolutely everyone could survive with a Focus. My daughter wants one when she passes her test. At least i won't have to sell a kidney.

I nearly bought one almost identical to that with fsh about 10 years ago. I was young and stupid at the time. A same age but higher mileage, no history 2.0 titanium came up for the same money, so I bought that instead. Turned out to be a lemon and I should have bought the 1.6 zetec instead. Still I learnt a valuable life lesson.

I'd be interested to know if the aircon and heated windscreen still work, but that looks like a lot of car for £1295. I've been tooling around in a 2006 Fiesta Zetec Climate that we bought off one of my wife's elderly aunts for £800 for the last two or three years and I'm so taken with it that I'm considering mopping the paint come spring. There's a lot to be said for these old Fords.

Every single video you make you have a dig at the past owners decisions on maintenance or how they didnt clean them.

And rightly so! How can you live with such a dirty vehicle? Doesn't take much to clean it. Easier to keep it clean than to leave and deep clean it.

Cars like this can be a great deal for the Shrewdie. I speak from experience. I drive an '05 1.2 Skoda Fabia with over 200K on the clock that I have owned since 16K. Didn't skimp on servicing (only requires hundreds not thousands) I would drive it to Timbuktu and back in a heartbeat, such a reliable motor. True, I am going get rid this year, electrical gremlins and a new 'cat' on the agenda, but such a cheap and reliable way of getting from A to B over the years. Two rules apply when buying a car like this: No.1 Make sure there is plenty of service history. No. 2 Obey all the rules. 😉

I still have one of these but a 1.8 TDCi Style with 137,000 miles. Pretty solid cars and cheap to fix when they do need something. Bought mine for £1500 in 2018 and besides the usual consumables it hasn't needed much. Coincidentally mine also has two Avon front tyres but Apollo's on the back and the AC (which still works) has the button worn off just the same as this one.

I had one of these. Flipping loved it. Mine was a titanium spec in black, the 1.8 petrol. Full black leather interior, heated seats. Sold it far too cheaply with 113k on the clock. Only real big bill was an ECU that needed sorting at a main dealer 😢

These are great cars. Not exciting in the least but excellent. went from Preston to Llandudno in one. Really smooth, easy drive. Love cars like this that are valueless but still all the car you ever need. After travelling by bus for six months I would kill for this or an Astra H 😊
