I bought a new 2002 Mondeo Estate Ghia X 2litre diesel. I ran it for 75,000 miles and gave it to my son. He ran it for a further 70,000 miles and traded it in. Other than service parts the only work needed was a new fuel pump and a new radio. A brilliant car and good value for money.

The last Mondeo I owned was a 2006 2.0 tdci bought for £750 in 2015. It had less than 100k on it and I thought I'd bagged a real bargain. When I drove it home I noticed a slight rattle so the next day I took it to my mechanic and found out it had a broken spring. I also discovered that the flywheel was on it's way out so straight away £1300 for a new flywheel, clutch and a front spring. About a week later it went into limp mode as I was overtaking and nearly killed me. This was something that happened almost every time I drove the car I actually kept the car for 3 years clocking up 150k but despite dozens of trips to different mechanics I never found out why it kept going into limp mode?

Had a friend that had a US Modeo and vacationed in Scotland, rented a Mondeo and said it was much better. It was a manual transmission I think he said it was a diesel and had tons of pulling power, much better feed back from the steering wheel and better brakes than the US version. I ran a 56 Reg 130 TDCi estate (in 2012) for seven years. Pound for pound the best car I ever had . I modified mine by deleting the EGR valve , fitting a KN air filter and putting a Drake Box 2 on the fuel rail . Also fitted a Discovery intercooler . This turned it into a rampaging beast . However it also returned 55mpg!

Its amazing how sentimental one can get over a car key. I had one on a mark 1 focus too. Instantly recognised it. That method of opening and closing the bonnet was genius. Secure and dont need to worry about a flimsy cable breaking. Richard Parry Jones had a lot to do with this era of Ford. From these comments you can see they were a good workhorse to many motorists.

Great cars, but just goes to show the issue with the used car market at the moment. This should be circa £750-£1000. Not your fault as you're just selling the car at the current rate but a 19 year old car should be basically scrap value at this point unless it's something special; but because of current inflation they're just not.

82K on the clock is nothing for such. Acar and it's been proved again, it's not age that kills a car, it's lack of maintenance. The Duratech engine is a Mazda/ Ford thing and those 1.8 and 2 liter engines were also used by Volvo and are chain driven so no belt to replace. This particular Mondeo is just like new and the price is spot on too. Thank you for the upload.

Very good cars! Mine is a 2003 mk3 Duratect & It’s done 320 km & still going strong! Have replaced the coil pack done regularly oil & filter changes.Replaced the water pump & thermostat & fitted a new fan belt! This model has a timing chain ! Fitted new rear shock absorbers, removed the catalyst from the exhaust pipe. But next to remove is the intake swirl flaps as they are rattling! Originally thought it was the rockers, but it’s the swirl flaps as the bushes wear out! The engine will still operate without them so I’m told! £300 sounds about right for that car & you can’t go wrong & should be able to make a few extra quid on the resale. Cheers!

What do you have against taking shoes off indoors Matt? 😂 I married a Japanese lady who hammered the rule into me and it’s much nicer to keep the inside of the home nice and clean. Why do you want to bring all the crap from your shoe into your home? I’m with you on sofa protective covers being silly tho. Why buy a nice comfy sofa then put that on because you’re worried about damaging it? Makes no sense to me.

Great to watch a down to earth video about a down to earth bargain car in great condition for its age. I buy cars of this ilk but usually have to spend a fair wedge on them. Just picking up a comment you made about Chinese tyres. I used to be the same, but for the last 10 years at least I've run my cars on them and they are reasonably priced, handle well, are comfortable, give good mileage. Which I didn't find with some well known European brands.

I drove 3 Mondeos between 2001 and 2009 (2 the shape of Goldie in your video) and covered 360,000 miles and the only mechanical issue I had was one seized rear brake caliper when i was heading to France for my hols. I recently bought another Mondeo on a 15 plate as they eat up the motorway miles effortlessly at low cost. Brilliant workhouse cars that people look down their noses at but are great to drive, economical and cheap to run. I've got a hatch version of this car - exactly the same colour, wheels, Zetec spec etc. I was given it for nothing in Spain on an 05 plate as it had no MOT and was basically worthless post-Brexit. Its now on Gibraltar plates which cost me in total £155 for the import duty, MOT and physical plates. I did a load of work in Tarifa last year and needed something that I could park on a dusty site, reliable, relatively economical and it never let me down once. Its still going strong. I did the oil/filters etc. plus rear wheel bearings and brakes plus 4 budget tyres. Only thing I have had to replace since was the coil pack when it started just missing slightly on hard acceleration. So I've got maybe £500 in the car and done at least 10,000kms already. Great for taking stuff to the bins, can park it anywhere. Bangernomics special.
