I have owned two of these. My wifes always went further than mine. I found i had a defective cell. There are 88 cells. It has a 100,000 10 year battery warranty. Mitsubishi gave me new pack free. If passenger heated seat its a 2014 or newer its still under warranty for defects but not regular degradation. That turtle screams defective cell if not at empty. I pull 1600lbs 5x8 uhaul about 30 miles on charge at 45 mph. I get 55 miles without trailer at 55mph. This "new" battery has 50k miles. Car has 103k i love my miev. I even pulled 4500lb rv out of back yard for someone to pick up. It has about 150lb torque. The "b" mode is max accel and max regen for mountains.

Btw it's a 16kwh battery. the remote allows cooling or heating car while plugged in to save battery. Warm and defrost car before heading out.remote has more range than Bluetooth solutions and no app costs. No cellular modem to get outdated like 3g cars. A tug or small tow it can do but not towing uphill or trying to stop going downhill..Plus it will drain the battery in 1 mile! Back in the early 1990's my buddies 1977 Chevette with 60 hp pulled a Winnebago RV 3 blocks to his house,we yanked out the big block and dumped the r.v(called the scrapper)..The r.v was burned in the back half and the owner basically gave it to us... he had a hitch to tow his small boat&trailer as he liked to fish,it pulled that fine as it wasnt heavier than having 3 passengers in the car. around 600lbs boat&trailer was tiny lol.. These car have been available in Canada since 2010 and where I lived they were primarily used for delivery by restaurants and convenience stores and were EXTREMELY reliable. They are not available anymore since the year 2021 in North America. The range was also not as described online ... in real life operators in Canada would charge every 2 days (120 km about) and a dream to drive and easy to maintain and it had the 10 year 160000 km warranty

I lived in Normal, IL when these came out. Mitsubishi made them in Normal when they came out. Normal became "Electric Town" from these. It was a campaign to make a "regular small midwest town" into an electric car town. These little cars were literally everywhere. Now, Mitsubishi is gone from town but the plant where these were made is now the main plant all Rivians are made. These cars were monumental in EV evolution.

The Prius batteries have gotten to a fairly low price with how many are out there. Sadly you need a ton of a car on the road for prices to go down and this i-MiEV is far too rare to have cheap batteries for it. The Leaf had cheaper ones and it was still too high to be worth it.
@corblom11
@corblom11 Жыл бұрын
Check, there are service places that rebuild batteries for Toyota Prius EV's, I'm sure they can do it for these. I think what they do is get a whole bunch of used assemblies, then take only the good cells from a bunch to make one good battery assembly. With new battery technology improving all the time I would think things would get better for retorfit kits to make them have more miles than ever. Good Luck

Hello Randy, one more thing, this car is mass produced in Japan and its rear wheel drive. Its will get 58 miles on fully charged. It's a good commuter car. Its good for city driving. As long you don't use to much a/c, you will get good range. Just drive it on drive mode and not eco mode. To open front bonnet, the liver on the front passenger side right by the glove box.

Turtle mode is a nearly universal sign in the EV world that you needed to charge it before you drove it. "B" is a nearly universal sign in the EV world for regen that works like engine "B"raking in the ICE world. Would like to see you replace the battery pack on this one. That would be fun and useful content for your channel. And no... None of us wants you to die or get injured for our entertainment. We like you!

Hey Randy, the B is a function that takes care of that the car will generate more energy to charge the batterypack. So if you let the throttle loose, it'll brake a bit harder to gain the energy and charge up the batterypack a bit more. Good luck!😄
@Tron-Jockey
@Tron-Jockey Жыл бұрын
The "D", "B" and eco modes are likely similar to the "D", "B" and eco modes used in the Nissan Leaf. Because an electric will develop full torque from the instant the accelerator is pushed they can be a bit intimidating (and power hungry). Eco mode puts a bit of hysteresis or lag in the accelerator to make the launches less intense (softer start), and makes the vehicle a little more economical (more range). The "eco" mode is not very noticeable and the range increase is tiny unless you're driving in a city environment or heavy traffic with lots of stop-n-go. "D" mode is normal electric driving mode with full torque available immediately. "D" mode has a little regen but it mostly feels like an ICE automatic when coasting and using the brakes. "B" mode is full regen which will recover a bit of charge during braking and put that charge back into the battery. "B" mode will also greatly save your disk brakes as they will rarely be used.

I saw this test drive coming as soon as you got in it. 17 milers of range that dropped to 14 then 13 then 11 in like 3 miles. That was entertaining to watch! This car has very little practical value right now with its current battery condition. New they were ranged only in the 50 to 60 actual mile range even though they were supposed to do about 100. Only 1893 units total were sold in the United States by December 2014. It is a electric conversion of one of Mitsubishi Kai cars in Japan. But it was a major effort by Mitsubishi to engineer the technology in the car. And it entered the market before the Nissan Leaf did. The I-MiEV has a 4 out of 5 star crash rating from the NHSTA for the 2012 model year.

Hey! I got a car suggestion for your daughter. I'm your daughter's age and I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 2.0t sedan for my first car. I got it for $2500 with 155k miles on it, dealer maintained with a clean CarFax. For the time I've had it, its been completely reliable with no problems. Previous to buying it, I drove a 2006 Saab 9-3 2.0t SportCombi for a year, from 150k miles to 178k. That one always started every time, got me through the snow and the summer weather. They are very fun to drive, the turbo engine is super fast, and they get almost 30 mpg. The seats are so comfortable, visibility is great, the interior has so many great features and they look cool. Plus, they are cheap and based on a GM platform that the Malibu was also on- the engine is just a 2.0t Chevy EcoTec with some Saab turbos added on. Parts are still easy to find online and its actually very easy to work on them. It'd be a perfect first car for her, it has been for me.

I have a 2017 iMiev and I drive it daily. The turtle means somebody screwed up by turning on the ignition while the fast charge (level 3) was being used. I had this happen to me the first week I had it. Didn't read the manual, lol. Took it to the dealer and they cleared the code. Been working great since. The car is pretty peppy. I drive it in B mode all the time. Speed is limited/capped at 138 km/h. My range used to be 125 km, but more like 100 km after driving it since 2016 (when I bought it). Yes, I live in Canada where everything is metric. I have a level 2 charger at home, so range is not really an issue. One side of the car has the level 3 charging port, while the other side is for level 1 and 2. That key fob is useful in the winter. While plugged in at home, it can remotely warm up the car. Or, in the summer cool down the car. It also has a timer to remotely start and stop charging so you can charge during off peak hours to save on electricity bill. It's a great car. I have the top of the line model that comes with infotainment system (7 inch touch screen with Apple Car Play, bluetooth, USB, Navigation, etc.). Bought it for around $20,000.00 Canadian brand new. Electric vehicles are not cheap, but this model was the cheapest of them all. It's not for everyone, but I'm glad I purchased it. Believe it or not, some people are absolutely intrigued by the looks of it. Different enough that it gets people's attention. No gas, no oil changes, and quiet. I have snow tires for it on steelies, but it's not a winter car. I have other cars and a truck, so I drive those in the winter. The ability to fast charge (CHAdeMO level 3) really makes the car manageable. 80% battery in under 25 minutes. 5 hours from empty to full on level 2. Level one, which is 110 volt takes a long time, however. Having the level 2 charger in the garage is perfect - overnight charging. Some people say it's the worst electric vehicle on the market. Yeah, whatever..................... I love mine. Didn't like it much hat first but boy, has it ever grown on me. Oh, I have the Labrador Black colour.

Great video, glad to see AR HQ. Glad you made it back safe & hope the recharge is the ticket to get it up and going. B stand for boost? 🤷🏻‍♂️. Would you have more power up the hills in D vs E? Just a thought.

In Estonia the government bought a ton of them so you see them all around and now after however many years there are a lot of them for sale for like 4000€ with 100km range for battery. Sadly most the chademo fast chargers are removed for the newer CCS so unless you only charge them at home its useless. I am thinking about maybe buying one though to make a mk2 golf into a plugin hybrid with the imiev motor and batteries

The Cost of a used battery is about 3500, the cost of a new OEM battery is a little over 10K but if you're going to spend 10K you might as well do the battery upgrade and spend between 12K to 16K. Personally, Junk the car or part it out to try and get some of your money back. One more option is to get in touch with Uncle Rich (Rich's rebuild) and have him sell you Tesla cell batteries to put in the car. But I am still sticking with junk it or putting it back in an auction.

7:24 As well as "park" "neutral" and "reverse" there are three driving mode positions that affect the strength of regeneration, intended for city driving (D), hilly terrain (B), and flat terrain (C) respectively;  the North American model is labeled (E)co instead of (C)

That small electric car would be perfect for the country where I live. The only drawback I've seen in other KZbin videos is that if you use the AC, and you have the lights on and charge your smartphone, the battery will run out very quickly. Another bad thing is that it does not give much distance range for each charge, apart from that it is a perfect car for low-income people That car is for short distances, with the AC turned off you just roll down the windows a little bit and cold air comes in from outside depend where you leave, I saw in cars with EcoMode that if you use it in EcoMode it consumes more battery than if you put it in NormalMode because it works harder to achieve speeds you want to go, if you put it in EcoMode it is to go slow if you want to go fast you have to put it in NormalMode or SportMode if it had SportMode It is not fair for this car to be compared to other electric cars, this car is unique, it is cheap and does not go a long way, it is for day-to-day life, it is for people with low economic resources, it is only to go from point A to point B smooth and unhurried, you can't have and use that little car thinking and comparing it with a gasoline car or another electric car

Btw. Remember that these batteries are serie connected like Christmas lights - bad range could also be a faulty cell, like one bad cell and fix that you might get better range. If that could be connected to your bad motor I don't know. These are everywhere in Norway and we have our share amounts of hills, but I have never seen any of these having turtle mode up a hill, just keeping the speed limit.

If you are like me and live in Norway, you have guaranteed seen a lot of these. If there is an EV designed to only get you from A to B like this one, then there is a lot of them, but if a manifacturer decides to make something fun and exiting, it's a big no no to sell them here. Even the new Prius was apparently too extreme and unnecessary to get here.

Randy I wouldn't give that car to my daughter, in a accident it's a death trap. Teenager don't always pay attention she could be coming home late at night and be in the middle of nowhere and the battery dies . I would be nervous giving a kid this as a first car.

I think you should buy her a used Volvo S60 or maybe an Acura TL. Something luxurious, but small. Something reliable and cheap to maintain. You could also get her a used Lexus, but that will probably be a bit expensive if you want something newer than like 2013.

I would definitely not recommend a luxury car for a first car, you have to factor Insurance costs the cost of the cars themselves, and a lot of them come with 6cyl and up for smoothness and not fuel efficiency. Not to say they are bad cars or that you shouldn't recommend them, but for a first car people should get the parent brands. Honda (Acura), Toyota (Lexus), and so on.
@KINGZZPVP_YT
@KINGZZPVP_YT Жыл бұрын
@@7SUK1 true, but the ones I mentioned are extremely reliable and have low cost of ownership compared to, say, BMW and Mercedes, both of whom make terrible first cars. A Volvo is actually one of the best options, and Acura has a low cost of ownership because the cars share powertrains with the Hondas they are based on. Most of them offer - or even come standard with - four-cylinder engines. The insurance thing is different, but everything else will be pretty easy if you go with one of those over something like an Audi.
@7SUK1
@7SUK1 Жыл бұрын
@@KINGZZPVP_YT This is also a valid statement. But think about it, an Acura Tl versus a Honda Accord. The Tl comes standard with Leather seats I believe. The Accord comes standard with cloth seating. The Tl only has a V6 but the Accord has an I4 or a V6. Ultimately, the Accord is a cheaper Tl and the Tl is a luxurious Accord. The Accord and Tl (If we only compare the 3.5 v6s) have very similar maintenance (Identical even) but the Accord is always going to be cheaper to buy, maintain, Insure, if you buy the I4 cheaper to fuel, similar to what you said, they are pretty much the same car with noticeable differences.
@7SUK1
@7SUK1 Жыл бұрын
@@KINGZZPVP_YT I also very much agree with your opinion on Volvo being the best among European luxury. I believe they are the most reliable European luxury cars and have far less problems than Audi, Mercedes, and Bmws
