Last year I got a totaled 2012 Porsche Boxster Spyder. It was used as a track car, making around 460 whp. The owner got too old to fix it and just wanted to see it run again, so they sold it to me dirt cheap, around 12k. It took me around 3k and 4 months to fix it (had to bend the frame of the car back to normal). It’s an amazing first car. I’m now 17 and have a job at a hospital working in HVAC. And I plan on buying a totaled GT3RS as my next car, which should be a pretty expensive but fun project. It will definitely be a couple of years from now before I start this project. I also plan on getting into real estate next.

I bought one expecting I’d sell it for a 996 a few months later. Not happening anymore, I absolutely love it because they are just incredible experiences

I must say I have been surprised by it thus far!

On my 986 my favorite mod is the Fabspeed intake, way more sound and more power up top with my 3.2. At a minimum, recommend the free snorkle delete on the stock inlet. The stock intake box of the 986 was designed for the 2.5 and wasn't updated for larger engines (until the 550 edition). If the suspension on yours is stock, I'd consider sway bars to make the car more responsive while retaining ride quality. If you'd like to get the car a little lower and handling better and can spend a little more, Porsche M030 springs and Koni yellow (sports) or FSD (frequency selective) shocks are reportedly a great riding performance setup that's a bit more budget and simple than high-end coilovers like Ohlins, KW, MCS etc. My car come on K-Tuned coilovers. They're pretty mediocre (china made stuff) and I hate them lol

Thank you for the information Tony! I will take care of the free snorkel delete! I will have to look into some of those other upgrades! But I said the same thing about the away bars when I saw them today! They are incredibly small!

What would you like to see with my new to me Porsche Boxster?

I would like to see you sell it to me.

Everything’s for sale for the right price 😂

Previous owner made a mess out of that car, sprayed vents, painted rims, Boxster logo removed from the trunk....sell it, and find one that was kept in original condition.

@@jalopy_jeff well I guess first where are you located? If its way far from me that would really figure in lol.If you arent within like 6 hrs of NC its probably a no go.

Great video! Just one thing the dual row in the early 2000 and before are 1% failure rate while the post 2000 model year’s single row has about 8% failure rate

Good video, I just got one in October. So much fun. Parts are expensive but doing repairs yourself saves money.

Thanks John! I’ve enjoyed it so far! Plan on doing as much of the work as possible so should be a good time there. So far nothing has been overly challenging, just a bit time consuming

986 owner here for closing in on 20 years ('00 base)...also got a 944 like you too. I just recently installed cupholders and should have done it forever ago. There are some "aliexpress" cupholders that fit the seat rails that you can get pretty cheap. The same ones are also resold stateside on ebay for about 3 times the price and there are other "porsche snob" cupholders that are are very similar that run 50-100 plus each. The stainless sill guards with boxster script I got pretty early on to protect the wide door sills and they make the car look nice. There is a "muffler" of sort on the driver side intake that reduces intake noise...remove it if it hasn't been done already. A short shift kit does help the somewhat disappointing stock shift linkage.

We must be on a similar wavelength! Cupholders are a must for me as I like to do roadtrips, I have a janky one that came with the car but I do need to look into other solutions! I will remove the intake pipe
@papasmurf98622 күн бұрын
@@jalopy_jeff you are right that the intake noise on these cars is about the best out there short of something really exotic.

Change out the orange side markers and headlights to go clear. Add rear spacers and get some silver 5 spoke OEM 18” wheels. Also, yes…remove the red at the air intakes and remove the rear badge and maybe just put a Porsche 986 badge on it. The Boxster script is odd looking to my eye. Good video!

Hope to see routine maintenance. It's a beautiful car, but i fear maintenance might be an issue without a lift. Enjoy your new car.

We shall see! Just changed both air filters and the oil today which was pretty smooth, even got some upgrades in! I’ve got some cooling system items to do next!

The 1997 - 1999 Had the double row IMS that is far more reliable than the smaller Single Row IMS. In fact your model is the most prone to IMS failure. If I were you that would be the first upgrade I would do. The failure rate for the 2001 - 2005 is 8% I have a 1999 with 94k and I did the IMS when the clutch started getting a little soft and needed replacing.
